Excellent Chain Restaurant that Makes People Fatter

This is a very high quality steakhouse that has excellent food, although with very large servings which because of the flavor of the serving creates a situation where people tend to want to eat too much! This is the original restaurant. The quality of the meats shine through at this establishment. Simple steaks without the garnishing or sauces. The meats speak for themselves and they are good!

I had the porterhouse, she had the rib eye. Both steaks were fabulous. Their wine list could make your head spin, but for me, it was like visiting a list of old friends. Our server, Jason, was friendly, attentive, not intrusive, and excellent. Not all Morton's are created equal. But this one is right up there near the top.

My girlfriend and I celebrated out anniversary at Morton's- The Steakhouse (The Original) on Sate St in Chicago. She had gotten a $200 gift certificate from work and we decided to pamper ourselves. I had gone online and made a reservation on the website, telling them that it was our three year anniversary and we would be in town to... More

We went into the restaurant. Headed up the stairs to the seating area. Downstairs it is the bar. The waitress was attentive. Explained dishes and made several recomendations. We ordered both of the tuna starter dishes. A filet mignon. A glazef salmon. Rib eye. Everything was deslicioso. For dessert we had creme brule and fresh fruits. It was a celebrating... More

We were spending 4 nights in Chicago and enjoyed prime bone-in ribeye steaks at Morton's on State Street one evening. I did not realize it was below ground, but that made it intimate. My friends and I had a nice glass of red wine to start, and my Malbec was lovely. Our steaks, all bone-in ribeyes were cooked perfectly, and... More

Loved this Morton's. Great atmosphere. Nice quiet restaurant due to low ceilings and carpeted floors slightly unusual for USA. Food was amazing. Steak was the best I had eaten in a while. Service was great.

My wife wanted to have a really good steak dinner. We decided on Morton's-The Original. We were very pleased that we did. Since you have to walk down stairs from street level we were unsure what to expect. When we stepped into the dining room we felt that we were dining 30-40 years ago with excellent setting, including the music.... More

It's not cheap, but when you just crave a perfectly cooked steak, perhaps with sides of wonderful horseradish mashed potatoes or creamed spinach, Morton's delivers. The space is refined, as is the service. This was arguably the best steak we've ever had, and those potatoes were an unexpected treat. Reservations are a must, especially on weekdays at this Loop location.

Neighborhood Profile
Gold Coast
Located just north of The Loop, Gold Coast is one of Chicago’s most affluent and popular neighborhoods. The original Playboy, Hugh Hefner, once had a mansion here. In addition to prestigious hotels, historic mansions and luxury high-rise apartments, you’ll also find upscale specialty boutiques and Michelin-starred restaurants. Walk along Oak Street for your shopping fix and dance through the night along Rush Street. The Newberry Library is also a great stop to check out noteworthy exhibits and rare book collections.
