Pasta E Fagioli To Dream Of

Colleagues from Chicago took us here for a dinner while we were in town, and it was outstanding. It beat just about any Italian restaurant I have been to, short of Italy itself. I am just baffled by the good reviews. The place is worn down and in desperate need of remodeling. The back room smells of cigars from the 1950's. The celebrities on the wall are mostly dead or in nursing homes. The seating is extremely packed and uncomfortable. The people at the next table had to stand up so we could... More

Wasn't impressed with the food or service that was here! It was super loud & the wait at 8 pm on Thursday was still 30 minutes. No place to wait, so had to go across the street to the bar while we waited. It is just average and definitely comparable to your local mom & pop Italian places.

Wonderful, authentic atmosphere and Italian food. Attentive staff and great comfort food and wine. The restaurant is adorned with old photographs of stars and restaurant guests. We walked to the restaurant from the Downtown Marriott, but took a cab back. (It's long walk.)

This is a fabulous old school Italian Restaurant. Great neighborhood atmosphere and homemade pasta and sauces. The waitstaff is great - seriously try this place you won't be disappointed!

Having grown up in a Sicilian house, going to this restaurant is like going home. We were here five years ago and it hasn't changed a bit. I felt like we were going back in time, as it is probably still decorated as it was in the 50's. But that's not a bad thing, in fact it's kind of fun.... More

We visited La Scarola with our family and had an amazing night. The food was delicious! They offered some great specialities. The people were very friendly and helpful.

The neighborhood on and around Grand Ave, the entrance and the bustling crowd remind you of classic gangster joints from years past. Like in the movies (maybe their is a gambling spot in the back for the lieutenants), reservations are a must but still be prepared to wait, and very worth it. Italian food as traditional as this does not... More

Classic restaurant, real waiters & bus staff - the owner is there and keeps an eye out - Felt very welcome - Did the Calamari & Antipasta for starters, alas portions were bigger than thought - Asked if they had Veal Saltimbocca, they did not, but made it anyway - My wife had a spicy Shrimp, Chicken & Pasta dish... We ate at La Scarola twice last week and we will keep coming back every time we are in Chicago. Armando makes you feel like family and the food is wonderful. This time our entrees were Pasta Vesuvio and Vitello di Franco...oh baby it was a delicious meal. On the way out out Armando recognized us from earlier in the... More
