Breakfast

If there is one of these near your hotel don't bother eating breakfast anywhere else. The food is amazing and very good value for money. The portions are large. It gets very very busy, so be prepared for a wait. But you won't be disappointed.

We visited here with my family when we were downtown one Sunday. We arrived to a queue outside the restaurant, but the line moved fast and we were soon seated. Choosing from the huge list of pancakes, skillets, omelettes and more was a challenge, but we all placed our orders and were more than satisfied when they arrived. Huge portions... More

We visited from the UK last week to visit friends who are local. We queued for about 15 minutes and were seated and served promptly. The pancakes were amazing. The buscuits and gravy were so good. A great time had by our party of 5. The only little downside is that it is a little cramped but the food is... More

There was a long line-up to get a table but it was worth the wait. The pancakes were great. We even saw who we believe was Michael Shannon of Boardwalk Empire (or his twin) eating there.

I came here on a Saturday morning and as was expected there was a pretty long line. Luckily, the line moved pretty quickly and I was seated after waiting about 10 minutes. The hostess was very polite. The sitting area was kind of tight, but not a huge deal unless maybe you're in a big group. I got the steak... More

Yes, there is always a line, but even when it stretches to the sidewalk it's not a long wait. This has become a breakfast ritual for us. Our favorites: The Spanish Omelette and the Swedish pancakes.

We try to go to one of the Original Pancake Houses whenever we're in Chicago, but this is our favorite. Since we were staying across the street at the Thompson, you can't get closer. No waiting if you go before 9:00 am. Service is always fast and efficient. Seating is cramped, and you might be seated with another couple or... More

Food was good but the space was so cramped. I felt like we were having breakfast with the other people there. They definitely do not need to have the tables soooo close to each other. It was uncomfortable. Our sever was very nice but the girl at the register was very unfriendly.

You can't beat the Pancake House in Chicago on Bellevue near Rush in Chicago for breakfast. They have not only a wide assortment of pancakes, but they also serve crepes, waffles, egg dishes etc. We visited in March and by 9:00 there was a waiting line (always a good sign). We visited several mornings on our annual Chicago trip and... More

Right across the street from our hotel, this was our breakfast place for our trip. It's small and quite busy but everything we tried was excellent.

Staying in Gold Coast

Neighborhood Profile
Gold Coast
Located just north of The Loop, Gold Coast is one of Chicago’s most affluent and popular neighborhoods. The original Playboy, Hugh Hefner, once had a mansion here. In addition to prestigious hotels, historic mansions and luxury high-rise apartments, you’ll also find upscale specialty boutiques and Michelin-starred restaurants. Walk along Oak Street for your shopping fix and dance through the night along Rush Street. The Newberry Library is also a great stop to check out noteworthy exhibits and rare book collections.
