My girlfriend and I went to Cafe Absinthe on a Groupon, and it was well worth it! We got mussels for an app and Salmon/Scalops for entree. The food was fresh, delicious, and well worth the price. The ambiance was very romantic and the waiter was great. This place is a little pricey if there wasnt a groupon, but well... More

Four of us ate at Cafe Absinthe on 9/19/14 and I felt compelled to write a review this morning. Access to the cafe is off the alley, and even though I found that a little weird, once inside it is a chic bar and cafe with an extensive cocktail menu and wonderful food. Portions are generous, prices are moderate for... More

Our group of four ate here for the first time recently, for a celebratory dinner. We have eaten in large cities and small towns. Our waiter was excellent - friendly, funny, attentive. He found out we were celebrating and later brought a dessert that he said the chef wanted us to have 'on the house'. The place was a bit... More

Lovely dinner out at this charming restaurant with an entrance located in an alley - really underscores the clandestine theme of the place as in the history of Absinthe. Our server was wonderful & made great suggestions! I had the seared foie gras appetizer which was very good. Hubby had cheese plate with only goat cheeses, very accommodating of them.... More

Wicker Park, the area where this restaurant is located, is known to be a popular gathering spot for young professionals and hipsters. Lively night spots offering music, beer etc dot the landscape. This restaurant which is next door to one of the lively bars (and apparently co-owned) is a delightful oasis offering serious French inspired dishes at relatively modest prices.... More

We knew the entrance was off the alley and reminded us of going to small restaurants in Barcelona and Paris so just wrap yourself around Damen to the alley north of North Avenue and you will easily find the little green fairy and the arrow pointing to the entrance. The setting is very bistro/Parisian feel, great ambience, low lighting a... More

We had an absolutely delcious meal at Cafe Absinth. The oysters were excellent, the smoked salmon was equally good, but the best was the tenderloin steak! It seemed to melt on the tongue, so soft it was, it cutted like butter. Definitely the best steak we ever had.

On the constant search for new to try in Chicago. Found this on open table so gave it a try prior to a show. Started with a nice bottle of wine, French onion soup, and halibut for the main course. Nicely done! My wife had the salad an risotto, and she was very pleased with both! First time here and... More

So we made reservation on Open Table. This place had some good reviews. I know it was a Thursday night but I really expected to be more people in there besides me and my husband. Waitstaff was friendly but I mean we were the only ones in there. I ordered the foie gras as an appitizer and my husband ordered... More

Cafe Absinthe is a gem hidden in the midst of the Bucktown/Wicker Park area. It is a warm, welcoming environment - a perfect place for a quiet meal with a loved one or good friends. The menu is somewhat limited, but covers a nice range of choices... and what they offer is terrific. And, surprisingly robust portions. The service was... More
