Great start of Route 66!

We decided to have breakfast at Lou Mitchell's before hitting Route 66. It is a lovely place, very friendly staff and the food is very nice too! We got complementary donuts and coffee.

I've been going here since birth- I have memories of Nick walking around greeting the tables (that's how long). I will always love this place. The fresh donut holes, the milkduds for the ladies, the coffee (minimum 4 cups for me, per visit), the orange slice and prune, the fluffiest eggs I've ever had anywhere, the fresh greek toast, and... We have eaten here several times. It's only a block away from Union Station, using the back entrance. We always try to eat here if our timing on Amtrak is right. There can be a wait, but it's worth it, and the line usually moves quickly. I had the best Reuben sandwich I think I've ever had. They serve it... More

We had originally planned to go elsewhere in the city for breakfast, but after our already long day of travel, and a friend's desire for a cinnamon roll, we decided to head from the train station over to Lou Mitchell's. I was shocked when it only took 10 minutes to get a place to sit on a busy Saturday morning... More

I lived a two blocks from this diner for a number of years, and it's the one restaurant I return to every time I visit Chicago. I highly recommend the banana pancakes; the Sour Cream Special omelet, and any of their egg dishes (all eggs are double yoked!), which are served in a skillet with awesome fried potatoes. Each breakfast... More

My husband and I visited today. We walked there after arriving via Amtrak/Union Station. Something helpful, if you're arriving by train, when you exit on Jackson St, go west about 2 blocks and its on the right side of the street. We had no wait when we got there. I ordered simply 2 scrambled eggs, bacon, hash browns and raisin... More

Old time diner from front door to back plus a bakery. Best rye bread ever. Everyone gets a treat as they seat you....little box of Milk Duds, orange slices or maybe a donut hole donut. You'll love it. Walking distance from Union Station. Chicago tradition for sure.

great food. Those were the fluffiest eggs i have ever had. The waffles were great. I wanted to try so many things on the menu, but after i finished my meal i couldn't eat another bite. Everyone was nice, good service. The only thing is that the place is tight. You have to squeeze pass others to get around. There... More

They have the best food! They give huge portions and the price is reasonable. I was very satisfied and highly recommend it.
