The beginning of our Route 66 experience.

Everyone said you had to stop at Lou Mitchell's at the start of Route 66, so we did. It was very cute inside. The waitress gave us a donut hole to start before seating us. She was supposed to give us Milk Duds too. She forgot I guess, everyone else had them and we had to ask. I had a... read more

My friend and I went here while stranded in Chicago because of the NY snowstorm. This place is only open til 3pm like most of the downtown restaurants. I was not sure what I was expecting, but was sadly disappointed at the slow service and regular diner food. The portions were typical diner sized portions kinda big, but not enough... More

This was our third visit. A must if you need to get a filling start to the day! Lou Mitchell's never disappoints. Good old fashioned American breakfast. Great atmosphere quirky staff and plenty to eat. If you like a fry up with all the extras this is your place.

Such a fun place for breakfast. There is always a wait to be seated, but people in line are treated to doughnut holes while waiting. The food is always fresh and served hot. We loved their fried potatoes and my friend said the corned beef hash was the best she'd ever eaten. Our only quibble was with the service. Our... More

I first breakfasted here in 2012 and have been back several times since, most recently yesterday. Lou Mitchell's continues to serve up hot, delicious high quality food with great service. Yesterday I ordered their corn beef hash with perfectly poached eggs, real old fashioned fried potatoes (not those horrible shredded frozen tasteless offerings that so many places call potatoes) and... Located right along Route 66 this is an excellent place for breakfast. The portions are huge, the food delicious and the price affordable. It is within walking distance of several attractions and the river. I would definitely recommend stopping in, don"?'t forget to enjoy the awesome donut holes handed out at the entrance.

I got this restaurant as a recommendation from a friend. This is not a luxurious place, it is more like a family owned place. All portions are big enough to feed you for hours!! So if you plan to walk downtown Chicago, this breakfas will give you hours of walking and enjoying the place without worrying about eating again! I... More

Came her a while back with some friends. A famous spot known for great baked goods and pastries, I was very happy with their pancakes and donut holes. Luckily, came late morning on a weekday so didn't have to deal with a line. One of the beater breakfast spots in Chicago.
