Went with a group of eight after hearing so much that was positive about this place and we were all disappointed, It started from the time we entered the restaurant. . .us trying to go in. . a gazillion people trying desperately to get out, amid the most awful cacophony of chatter, falling plates, and generally discordant sounds. Our ears were... Food was just very average. Liked the free donut hole when you first walked in. Way too pricy for what you get. Just average breakfast food. My daughter ordered French toast and the server asked her if she wanted bacon or sausage. My daughter didn't want either, but told her bacon since she asked. Got the bill and they charged... More

I do love American diners and breakfast joints from the previous century, I'll confess that right out. Their menu is the food I grew up eating, and it's the the atmosphere I grew up eating it in. As a mature individual I have since grown to appreciate U.S. history, home-baked bread and pastries, organically raised produce, and first-class coffee ---... More

Close to Union Station we 'found' Lou's quite by chance, it was around 10.30 and there was a long line. Our first thought was to walk on but decided to wait, very pleased we did! Service was good and prompt and very cheery considering how busy they were, Enjoyed first rate corned beef hash with hash browns and eggs over... More

This was not our first visit. Not disappointed again. Service, food, and atmosphere all more than you would expect from such a small place. Don't forget to grab a free donut on your way in.

Prepare to wait in line. Prepare to wait for the waitress. Prepare to wait for your order. (Service is friendly and efficient, but the staff are very busy.) But then enjoy great pancakes, eggs, omelettes or whatever you want to eat in generous portions and full in taste. Very nice and typical american diner food.

We have eaten here several times over the years and never been disappointed in their great breakfast. We again had the hearty Michigan apple and sharp cheddar cheese omelet with thinly sliced fried potatoes and homemade raisin toast....yummy and worth the wait for a table. It's location claim of the beginning point of the old US Route 66 along with... More

Couldn't decide what to order so I had both the pancakes and the smoked salmon eggs benedict. Presentation was average but the food was awesome, especially the pancakes! BEST pancakes ever! And their maple syrup blend was really good too! Service was impeccable. My friend's buttered toast was abit toooo buttered and they promptly got it changed for him! Place... More

Being lifelong New Jersey residents, my wife and I have been to our share of diners over the years. Lou Mitchell's is a terrific spot which exceeds expectations in every aspect of "the diner experience." Not only is the food awesome, but our waitress was great too. We had a really nice conversation with her and she educated us about... More

Lou Mitchell's is my favorite traditional diner. I've enjoyed Lou Mitchell's on most of my trips to Chicago, over a half-dozen times, most recently June 2014. The menu is old school diner food, prepared very well. I tend to gravitate toward more upscale "hipster" breakfast menus (Blue's Egg in Milwaukee, Bluephies in Madison, Marigold Kitchen in Madison, Golden Harvest in... More
