Didn't realize this place was special until I went to post a review. Had dinner with 11 co-workers. Reservation. Table was ready in private room. Ambiance was average. Music was very loud. Service was timely and consistent through the meal. Food was good, but not great.

I've always admired Rick Bayless. And, after many years of visiting Chicago with never any time to go to Frontera Grill, I finally got my chance! It was all that I'd hoped for -- colorful, friendly, smelled GREAT. And the food -- well, what can I say that others haven't already? We all loved it. My husband loved his whole-fish... More

We were anxious to try this mexican restaurant. We had some chips and salsa as we waited for our entrees: grilled steak and duck breast with vegetables and guacamole which we shared in making our taquitos. The meat was tasty and cooked to perfection (medium rare). My wife ordered a margarita which she said was the best she ever drank.... More

There were so many choices on the menu that we decided to get several smaller items instead of 2 entrees so we could sample lots of offerings. The ceviche was fabulous as was the tortilla soup and kale salad followed with chicken taquitos. Every mouthful was a treat. The service was friendly and professional and we would return if we... We did some guacamole and chips and then sampled the Street Food trio and the Old School Frontera Trio. My faves were the ceviche tostada and the sopes rancheras. Another in our group had the black beans and white rice and we tried the swiss chard in green chili. It was all good,...the chard was my least favorite, a little... More

Perched above Michigan Ave. in the middle of the Mag Mile this spot is worth a visit. The grilled food is very good and service is always good. We've been here several times and it doesn't disappoint.

Difficult to imagine a better meal in Chicago! Topo "Mexico City 1831" seven course menu was inventive, delicious and beautiful. The two best courses were the sashimi-style halibut escabeche with plentiful slices of lime cured delights and the lovely quail with pine nuts, with a foie gras stuffing. The three wine pairings were perfect, all unusual, especially the Les Trois... More

We want to make clear at the outset that there are 2 different restaurants and we are not sure why they have been linked in Trip Advisor as the one entry. Frontera Grill is very different to Topolobampo and it was Topolobampo at which we ate. Dinner at Topolobampo is a series of small plates which are laid out on... More

Rick Bayless really understands Mexican cuisine and flavors and his restaurants always do amazing things with the food. The service is excellent and the portions are just right. Considering the perfection of preparation and the high quality ingredients, the price are reasonable.

Ill keep it short because theres really not much to say other than: GO! There is nothing you can go wrong with. My only suggestion is that you stick to the street food for sharing. Under the recommendation of our server we ordered the bigger plates (also to share) and both were dissapointing. Its not that they were bad, but... More
