Blackbird is a special local treat

I searched on the Top Ten best restaurant lists for downtown Chicago and Blackbird came up consistently. While in town for the NeoCon conference we wanted to try a new restaurant. No idea this place has been around for 17 years. I wish I would have known to recommend to folks. I'd definitely go back. They change the menu out seasonally, but keep a few items year round.

Went here before the ballet for something a little more upscale. I had high hopes as my understanding was that this was the same group that owns Avec, next door, which is one of my favorite restaurants in Chicago. While nothing was bad about my experience, likewise nothing stood out as fabulous and I suppose my disappointment stems from my... More

We had an 8 o'clock reservation and almost passed it up because of the buz about girl and the goat restaurant down the street. After leaving the girl and goat which had an hour and half wait and too noisy to visit, we were in for a wonderful surprise. unfortunately the tables are way too close and we had to... More

Took a client here for dinner on a Monday night. The food here is wonderful. It's pretty expensive so be prepared. This is definitely a high end restaurant. We tried several different items and all of them were great. Good wine menu as well.

My wife and I looked forward to have dinner here. We took four appetizers: prawns with legumes (tasted funny), soft shell crab tempura (overly fried), beef tartare and scallops (tasteless). None of these stood out as a satisfying dish. We took the same main course: wood-grilled sturgeon, which was dry and burnt. The only highlight was the desserts. Overall, the... More

My husband and I spent a kid-free weekend in Chicago and decided to try Blackbird. To be honest this was mainly because I could not get a reservation at many of the other restaurants I wanted to try. However, we were not disappointed at all. The service, the food, the ambiance. Everything was excellent! I started with the watercress soup.... More

Great wine and craft cocktail selection. Food is smaller portion and pricier, but very well worth it. Seating is similar to family style with all the finery.

There is a reason restaurants have Michelin and Beard Awards...they are clearly outstanding. This is such a place. Not pretentious..but almost perfect in service and the general way they handle people. The menu changes constantly but we had soft shell crab...a salad...Lamb...pork belly ...with mud pie dessert. Everything was perfection. There was a tasting menu for $120. Never rushed...always accessible..place... More

Great little spot with spot-on food presentations! The coziness does lend itself to talking to and sharing food info with your neighbors!
