The bacon-wrapped, chorizo stuffed dates are a critical must and worth a visit from far away. Seating is not that comfy, service is just ok and portions are very tapas sized. Regardless, very good food.

This place is small and fills up fast. They serve small plates and large and are meant to be shared. We got Black Cog, which was great, octopus, which the best I have ever had and Steak- also fantastic. Definitely would recommend it.

We absolutely loved this place! We were fortunate to be here on a Monday night which mean no queuing, but the place was still really busy and had a great vibe. We sat at the bar right where the chefs are cooking which was fascinating to watch. They're really friendly and answer questions about the incredible food, which ranges from... More

This is a tiny spot that doesn't take reservations, but it is worth the wait and the crowd. Shareable plates that never disappoint, this restaurant always reminds me of being in Europe. You will rub elbows with your neighbors at the family style seating availability, but it's never bothered me. The food is outstanding. I always get the chorizo stuffed... More

This is a small place and while the food is excellent it's very crowded and can be loud. I know it has a great following (hence the long wait) but I prefer a quieter, more relaxing restaurant. Glad I tried it though.

We were very excited to visit while in Chicago and our expectations were met! The special (strawberries, asparagus, straciatella cheese, lime vinegar on seeded bread) was excellent. Even better were the medjool dates stuffed with chorizo in a red pepper sauce---heaven on a plate. Also had the whole Bronzino which was good. The homemade nutter butters were good and the... More

If you're not all that social or trying to have an intimate dinner, I would not recommend Avec. For everything else this spot is fantastic. Seating is communal but always inviting and friendly. I've come here for my birthday dinner 4 out of the last 5 years, or something like that, and I'd have to say this is probably my... More

I went to Avec last week whilst enjoying a week exploring Chicago, we arrives at around 9.30 after enjoying an improv show at 2nd City, my wife had researched eateries in Chicago and this one looked great on paper, we were greeted warmly, served efficiently and the food was absolutely lovely, informal sharing plates and all beautifully cooked and presented,... I'm glad we made a stop here. Awesome kitchen, great service, and aesthetically flawless place. Try the octopus, chorizo-filled dates, and the fish. You won't. E disappointed ;)
