Description: Bistro Campagne is a warm and friendly neighborhood restaurant in the...
Bistro Campagne is a warm and friendly neighborhood restaurant in the tradition of a true French bistro. From the beginning, Bistro Campagne has strived to capture and express that ephemeral quality found in favorite small neighborhood bistros in Paris and rural France: the sense of welcome, ease, fun conversation & and of course excellent food. The setting is a charming blend of prairie-inspired decor and lively Gallic spirit. It is the food, however, that is at the heart of a great bistro, and Chef Michael Altenberg offers a seasonally changing menu of classic bistro fare that is based on the best ingredients he can find. His commitment to organic agriculture leads him to seek products from local organic farmers throughout our Midwestern growing season, and even from organic farms on the west coast throughout the winter. Bistro Campagne is committed to the use of organic food products and strongly supports the sustainable, low impact agriculture movement.

Can't Wait to Go Back!

My husband found this when researching jobs in the restaurant industry. We made a reservation for a weeknight and took the Brown Line up north. A bit of a walk off the L stop but fine in the summer weather. We were so surprised by the large outdoor patio space! We wanted to sit right away so ate... read more

Husband had the hangar steak, and it was very good. My calf liver stew with pork belly, served over mashed potatoes, was the winner of the night, however. It is hearty rather than elegant, and we both found it absolutely delicious.

This is a very nice spot. It feels very homey and comfortable. The price point is a bit higher then what a French Bistro is. I had great service although they "lost" our reservation.

We found this restaurant by chance, it was the best dinner I had in Chicago. The food was excellent, from the fresh out of the oven bread to dessert it was the perfect dinner. We ordered meat and chicken and both were cooked perfectly, every bite was an amazing experience for dessert we had crème brulée and it was one... More

We visited Bistro Campagne for the first time during French Restaurant Week and took advantage of the prix fixe special. The atmosphere in this restaurant is fabulous: cozy, warm and interesting interior décor, and a wonderful outdoor eating area. Service was excellent, friendly, informative, and efficient, even on a busy night. Ask your server about the history of the building.... More

We have been to this restaurant at least 10 times and it is always good. True French cooking bistro style. It has a great outdoor patio in the summer and is charming inside.

Incredible restaurant Bistro Campagne. First impression, decor: We arrived a few minutes after it opened for lunch. There was already people settled down, and throughout the meal we enjoyed our food with such a nice crowd around.

Sometimes you need to explore and get out of the normal neighborhoods and enjoy fabulous food without the pretension of well you know those tony places in neighborhoods along the lake. Outstanding fare, knowledgeable staff, intimate surroundings, wonderful selection of affordable wines. We had an assortment of dishes - salads, chicken, hanger steak, pork chop, trout, a side of English... More

We had a wonderful experience last Sunday evening celebrating Mother's Day. The Poulet Roti was wonderful as always. The mushroom sauce and the onion strings make it special. The mussels are always a favorite and the broth is the best I have run into. The only negative was that the burger was over the requested medium temperature, but the onion... More

We were in the mood for a taste of France. The restaurant has several smaller rooms decorated in a low-key Rural French style. But the black and white photos of farms and fields look like they could have been shot in Illinois. The staff was friendly and local, we hope they could at least find France on a map. The... More
