I am of German descent and have grown up with German food. As far as German food goes this is top notch. But as I said above in the end it's just German food. It is hard to compare German food with many other cuisines thus it would be hard for me to go higher than a 3 rating. Four... More

Our second annual Herzo Base reunion was a hit, and we ended the final night by going to the Chicago Brauhaus! As soon as we entered the doors it was as if we stepped back overseas! From the decor to the food, to our waitress with the German accent :) The owner visited our table to let us know that... More

Until recent years, Chicago always had three great German restaurants: Chicago Brauhaus, Zum Deutchen Eck, and Berghoff. The years and economy have changed this. Zum Deutchen Eck is gone. The Berghoff family nearly ran their restaurant out of business then wisely scaled it back to survive. The Chicago Brauhaus has not changed one bit since it opened its doors decades... More

If you love brats, if you love beer, if you love live music, if you love all things German - this is the place to be. The Chicago Brauhaus has been in the Lincoln Square neighborhood for decades and it will continue to be so. It is owned by the same two brothers who opened the restaurant’s doors on day... More

I wanted to try this place because of the triple d show. It was fine. The meal was generous. Schnitzel and sauerkraut, liver dumpling soup and excellent fried potatoes. Live music was hokey but entertaining and the place was full. Give it a try!

I had to be in Chicago on business for one week in April of this year, so my wife and I have decided to dine at restaurants we have not had the pleasure to eat at in the past, when visiting Chicago. I am sure, just like me, other food enthusiasts have seen the Food Network show, Diners, Drive-Ins and... More

I wouldn't want to eat here everyday (not much in the way of vegetables), but the music and raucous attitude were contagious! I did enjoy the meatloaf and German potatoes. The beer drinkers in the group liked the selection of beer on tap. When people started dancing around the restaurant a good time was had by all. My only complaints... More

This place stole my heart! We were stuck in traffic heading downstate Illinois from Wisconsin when we decided to take a break and get off the interstate. We decided by chance to eat at the Chicago Brauhaus. We were shocked at the lively, friendly atmosphere. This place had something we wanted a piece of. It was crazy busy so they... More

This Lincoln Square landmark is off the beaten tourist path (although it is a very short walk from the Brown Line's Western Avenue stop). Although it is out of the way and off the beaten path, tourists and Chicagoans alike should beat a path to its front door. In short, the Brauhaus is the best! The food is fantastic. It... More

This Lincoln Square area, once upon a time, was known as a "German Town". It had German delicatessens, butchers, stores, restaurants, German Club, library, etc. Next the Greek restaurants moved in and after them, which is now, it is a mixture of everything and everybody…constantly changing and gentrifying. There were three or four very good authentic German restaurants and beer... More
