Fantastic freshly baked croissant a perfect way to start the day. With friendly staff and lively atmosphere. A lovely local feel in a big city.
I love French style pastries. This bakery is Belgiun and known for it's breads. I bought the rye bread and the bruegel bread and sat down for a cup of decaf and an almond croissant. The staff were helpful and friendly. My croissant was heavier than the French croissant and topped with lots of sliced almonds. It was delicious just... More
Very much enjoyed our salads - The Belgian with tuna and The Flanders. Fresh ingredients, nicely prepared and presented. Friendly service. Reasonably priced for the portion size, particularly considering the neighborhood. Pastries looked great but too full from the salads to try any. Would certainly go more often if I lived closer!
We wanted a treat for breakfast so we picked up almond chocolate croissants and a chocolate croissant. Yes we could have had the free coffee (reviews of the coffee were bad) and we wanted Starbucks lattes more so we took our croissants to Starbucks and ate breakfast there. Ironically that day was the day Starbucks was introducing their new Boulangerie... More
The other day as we were wandering around downtown Chicago on a cold rainy day, someone from the group says "let's find a real Belgian or French Patisserie and enjoy some good coffee/hot chocolate with pastries". Pull out the iPhone and google Belgian Patisserie, and a sweet looking little place pops up - Hendrickx with nice reviews. No brainer, that's... More
Our hotel concierge recommended Hendrickx for the baked goods and coffee. It's a small place, but the staff greeted each person with warmth and it was clear most of the patrons were locals who knew this was a place for quality croissants and desserts. The Belgian drip coffee was very good, and the croissants amazing. The Belgian waffle, very different... More
Hendrickx Belgian Bread Crafters was one of the stops on a chocolate tour that my husband and I took; it was by far my favorite place. Hendrickx is owned by a Belgian lady who described life in Belgium. She said that there is a bakery on every corner and they don't use preservatives and very little, if any, sugar. She... More
What a sweet surprise it was to find Hendrickx Belgian Bread Crafters a five minute walk from our hotel. Croissants are not to be missed...many different favors, but I preferred mine plain with butter and jam. Excellent Belgian drip coffee. There are a number of small cafe tables outside, perfect for the pleasant June weather. Friendly and helpful staff, wiling... More
I was here to get a little breakfast. And I have to say it was worth it: Bresaola was great, all the bread is fresh and authentic European! So if you're looking for a little Europe in Chicago for breakfast and lunch, this is it. Including French ;) About the coffee I wouldn't say anything special. Just coffee. Sitting outside... More
