Description: Zapatista is named in honor of Emiliano Zapata and all his faithful followers, which were called Zapatistas. During the Mexican Revolution early in the 20th century, Zapatistas fought for freedom, equal rights for fair wages and the opportunity to own their own land, much like the American colonists had fought for in the American Revolutionary War. Given the importance of Mexican culture in the United States, we found it necessary to tell this story through our restaurant. Zapatista is one of Chicago's best authentic Mexican restaurants. Favorite dishes include the made-to-order guacamole and the fajitas which are served sizzling hot in a molcajete or lave stone. The menu also boasts excellent steak and seafood dishes and a seemingly endless list of tequila choices. And our guests will love al fresco dining in late spring through early autumn, with our grand outdoor dining area on the sidewalk.

Food was great. With a newborn baby at home we chose delivery. The savory lamb tacos provided meat equivalent of a leg of lamb, the coconut shrimp spicy and awesome. We choose 8 different meals and every one great.

I actually chose this place because I wanted to sit elevated off the street surrounded with flowers. Really has alot of ambiance in that regard. The neighborhood can be a bit overpriced but I thought the prices were average for higher end Mexican. I had the fish in a butter caper sauce with mixed vegetables which was very good. The... More

Zapatista has several locations in the Chicagoland area and they are themed nicely with faux brick walls with Tequilas and specials written on them and big heavy wood tables. Another nice touch is a senorita making freshly prepared guacamole at a station just outside of the kitchen area. The menu is big and has something for everyone. However, flavors are... More

Really great meal at Zapatistas. If you order the fajitas for one be prepared to take some home, or share. When it came out we thought it was for two, big portion. Yummy guacamole, tacos, sangria, margaritas, etc... Nice location in Lincoln Park.

My boyfriend and I head to Zapatista often as it is right down the street from our apartment. We recently visited the Yucatan and found that the fresh food we enjoyed there is also found at Zapatista. Some of the food is a little rich for my stomach, but it is all very good. The drinks are probably my favorite... More

I visited on 6th June and as I was on my own was shepherded to an inner part of the reataurant which even at 8-30pm was dark with no lighting above the table. I was handed a menu which you could not read. When I asked how I was meant to order if I couldnt see menu in dark I... More

This restaurant is nicely located at the corner of Fullerton and Clark, a very busy intersection. The decor is nice and seating reasonably comfortable. The service is reasonable as well. The food, however, is really iffy. Most of the food is pre-made and overcooked. The lamb chops were clearly made yesterday and heated up before serving. The vegetable is not... More

I visited with friends on a beautiful evening in March 2012. It was a warm evening so they opened up the large glass panels at the front of the restaurant letting the wonderful air in. In spite of the atmosphere however, the food was only average. We tried the ceviche which was bland and lacking in character. Also, the shrimp... More

Nice atmosphere and great service but the food didn't have a real Mexican 'kick' to it that I was craving that evening. It was good, just not spicy enough for me.
