I searched for weeks to find a "Different" kind of restaurant in Chicago and didn't succeed in finding one until 1:00 AM Wednesday morning. My friends like different, they wanted different and that's just what we got. I lucked up and found one of the best meals I've ever eaten. It consisted of all fresh local farm items like hand... I was not knocked out by this place, considering it was listed as a best new restaurant in 2013 by Chicago Magazine. It's casual decor and brick walls give it a loft-like feel. The meal started with a small piece of warm foccaccia with a delicious sweet pepper relish. We ordered the trout, the pork belly and the burger. The... More

Nightwood was a pleasant surprise. I'm always impressed with farm-to-table restaurants' decor. There's a main area, which looks pretty typical in terms of seating; a bar area, where the kitchen is open and you can see the chefs preparing your food; and an patio area, which is considered "outside", but you're surrounded with greenery, and temperature can be controlled. Brunch... More

When to Nightwoods with some business colleagues for dinner and we enjoyed the fun atmosphere. The service was excellent and the waitress was very fluent in the food and wine menu. I ordered the lake trout and it was good. Everything on the menu has some interesting twist with very fresh ingredients. The chocolate mouse dessert was outstanding.

I just can't seem to have a great experience here. I'm not sure exactly what they are trying for. It's a local casual place with locally sourced ingredients. But it's priced as if it were a formal place. The food always seems close to great but not quite. I have no problem paying $16 for 6 bites of pasta if... More

I had wanted to go to LuLu's, but I couldn't get a reservation. So my wife found this place and reserved a table using Open Table. I had no idea where this was, so I googled it using my iPhone, grabbed my transit card, and headed to the restaurant. We got to the restaurant way early. The staff quickly seated us... More

The menu is good, interesting and eclectic. They claim they grow their produce and it was very good so I believe it. I had the trout and it was delicious. The atmosphere is kind of hipster and modern. They have an open kitchen that is very clean. Why not five? I don't like the table arrangement of one next to... More

Very off the beaten track (we took a taxi) and you will feel like you have stumbled into an oasis: dark, cosy, but still modern surroundings, an intriguing menu that combines local ingredients with an Italian / Mediterranean touch, great and eclectic wine list, and enthusiastic servers. I loved everything about this place and plan to return.

Wanted to love it, but just couldn't. Interesting menu but we really had to search in our food for the ingredients listed. One anchovy, really? The guanciale was MIA. The mushroom salad I had was more like a salad with a few mushrooms in it. I was expecting mushrooms to be the main event. Would like to have seen more... More
