The food is creative and very good. The portions are huge. The staff is friendly and helpful. However, the noise is ridiculous. At a table for four, you could not talk to the person across from you, and if you were one person in, you could not even hear the wait person. Expect to eat, but not to converse.

We went to The Publican to meet some old friends while we were visiting Chicago for a weekend. They had been there before and suggested the restaurant. It is such a comfortable and unique place. The staff was very helpful and always courteous. My husband and I have nut allergies and Benny our waiter went above and beyond to describe... More

Somewhat hidden from Chicago visitors in the wholesale meat district west of town are two versions of the Publican restaurant (for simplicity, a deli and full restaurant) both well respected by locals. Being from California where certain foods are not fashionable, it was genuine pleasure to eat at an establishment that celebrates all types of meat! My introduction to The... More

I came to the restaurant not knowing much about the place. Came away with a stomach beyond capacity and a fantastic experience. I was with a table of four others that evening. We ordered so so much food and ALL of it was amazing and delicious. From cocktails, oysters, meats, vegetables and desserts...all were excellent. Next time I'm in Chicago,... More

Had a great experience. Started with excellent wine at one of the high top tables. Moved to the dining area for a delicious meal. Try the Oyster Platter...fabulous! Great space with great energy!

The beers available looked impressive, and I wish I could have tried them all. The wine list looked great as well, distinguished by not only red or white, but the flavors behind the grapes as well. The food was superb. We had one seafood dish (scallops), two meat dishes (pork belly and duck sausage) and one vegetable (marinated eggplant) for... More

Was very pleased With overall experience! Food was amazing! We were Seated in a closed Door Booth which was very kid friendly! Staff were gracious and Service fast. My favorites were Pork grinds, suckling pig and Brussels sprouts. Make sure to Save room for dessert and Order Their apple Tart!

We booked a table for 9.30, arrived early and got placed at a high table standing in the bar. We got seated about 20 minutes after our reservation which wasn't all too impressive, but we got a good table, so no big deal. The food we ordered came in no particular order, but the waiter informed us, so it turned... More

My wife and I went to Chicago for the weekend and went to the Publican on Saturday night. We didn't have a reservation but they fit us in right away at the bar. We started with chef selected oysters (good not great) and the charcuterie plate which was amazing! Then we had the eggplant (very good!) and for our entrees... More
