We went as a party of six on a recent Sunday evening with friends visiting from Puerto Rico who had learned about Publican from other friends there, and we were impressed. They serve dishes family style, so we were able to order 7 or 8 different apps and entrees. The chicken, country ribs, steamed flounder, wax beans....all great with creative... More

Walked up about 10:00 on a Saturday night with no reservation and were seated immediately. Lots of energy in the room! My companions enjoyed the chef's choice of oysters. All entrees served with plates for everyone. The flounder, pan fried whole, then boned at the table was wonderfully cooked, moist & flaky. Next the squid w/ hot sausage & suckling... More

Went to the Publican for brunch last weekend when it was recommended by a co-worker. The place is fabulous. Our server was quite friendly, but not to the point of obnoxious, the food was fantastic and the dining room is great. Heather had very tasty plate of fresh waffles, and I had an amazing pancake with sausage and bacon-wrapped chicken.... More

We had eaten at The Publican shortly after it opened and had a fantastic, meal-to-remember experience, so we were excited to return (with a friend) a few years later. The meal began on an annoying note: we arrived, early, for our reservation and were told that our table would not be ready at the appointed time. We were then led... More

The Publican is one of the best places we have eaten in Chicago. The menu changes frequently and the selections include fish, chicken, pork, duck and more. We started with the 6 oyster selection from different areas of the country and pork rinds. Both were delicious. The pork rinds are very light and crispy. Our vegetable selections were bar-b-Quechua carrots,... More

This is a great place to go for a unique brunch if you don't mind a noisy place. The modern, rustic setting is comfortable and nice. I enjoyed the sourdough oven baked pancake with sausage and bacon-wrapped chicken with maple syrup. It was so filling, I took half of it home. It is very noisy, so keep that in mind.

We came for brunch early on a Sunday afternoon and we could hardly hear each other talk...even though we came after the crowd had thinned. I'm almost a senior citizen and find the VERY NOISY ATMOSPHERE unpleasant. They have communal seating which I often enjoy There was a nice selection of beers and wines, but I found the offerings a... We came here for brunch and the place was mobbed. Wound up taking a seat at the bar and watching the magic happen. It happened to be an unbelievable experience. Absolutely loved the pimento cheese toast and the French toast. The lobster scrambled eggs were unique and very good. Would definitely go again. Great experience!!

I do not like smoked food and the foundation of what they offer here. But my husband wanted to visit badly, and it was his birthday trip. We were seated at a table with a couple from our city - too funny. We had a couple on the other side who were a brother/sister. It was fun speaking to both... More

The food here is always fresh and delicious, and the beer list is phenomenal! I have been enjoying food at the Publican since it first opened and the food is consistently great. The communal seating and noisy atmosphere makes this a great spot for a good, unique dinner with friends and family--maybe not so much for a first date. Make... More
