Our taxi driver told us about the Italian Beef Sandwich at Portillo's and thought we would give it a try but didn't put a ton of faith in his suggestion. So glad we gave it a try, definitely exceeded expectations!

A local landmark. Great beef sandwiches and hot dogs. Lots of great food and cold beer to choose from. The interior makes you feel like you're at Disneyland. Everything is fresh and made to order. Large restaurant with two levels of seating. Returned home to Texas but still crave the beef sandwich!

Warm atmosphere right when you walk in. Very well organized queues to order your food at. BIG portions, so make sure you're hungry :) Quick service (even over lunch time). A bit more pricey but definitely worth it!

This isn't a meal, it's an experience. Yeah, a little touristy, but let's face it, we were tourists. Great building, great atmosphere, lots of energy, efficient ordering & service...and the food was pretty darn good ! Obviously we had hot dogs and they were excellent. Everybody who visits Chicago should stop here for lunch. It is a giggle !

I'm not into ordering food online or picking it up in a drive-through. I was flabbergasted when my favorite White Castle, which dates to the 1940s, installed a drive-through window. But I made an exception for Portillo's on 100 West Ontario Street (at Clark) in Chicago. I've enjoyed eating in the restaurant with all of its hustle and bustle and... More

Wish there were more of them around Chicago and across the US. My favorite fast food place. Hamburgers, hotdogs, shakes, salads, ribs, tuna sandwich - they're all good, almost trouble they're so good.

There are better chicago dogs out in the suburbs, I.e. Frank 'N Dawgs, but this remains the best in our opinion down town. Good and consistent year after year. Bet you can't eat just one.
