Description: The Berghoff Restaurant is a Chicago landmark, serving German-style cuisine and culture since 1898. One of the oldest family-run businesses in the nation, it is now run by fourth generation, Carlyn Berghoff. At today’s Berghoff, menus have evolved to add newer, lighter and more contemporary dishes, but it’s still the same old Berghoff, down to the famous root beer. Open for lunch and dinner, the Berghoff’s wide variety of appetizers, salads, sandwiches, and entrées is sure to satisfy everyone in your party. With fresh ingredients, seasonal menus and vegetarian & gluten-free dishes, it's “tradition with a twist!” Private Dining - Berghoff Catering & Restaurant Group provides a truly unique event experience within the setting of the historic Berghoff building. Host your next event in one of our four private rooms. Contact us to start planning today!

This restaurant is in a great location, close to the hotel where I stayed. I had roasted chicken served with mashed potatoes and asparagus. The chicken was good, but a little bland. Asparagus was great. My Bloody Mary was not good at all. My companion had a sausage mixture with Oktoberfest beer and loved it. If you like German food,... More

and was just as happy with it at the "original" location. Realize there are naysayers, but, my German born mother and I love the Reubens.. I typically order a Reuben without the dressing, but, love the Berghoff's dressing... probably because of the pepper content! I liked what I term an "old school" décor/atmosphere... we sat in the dining room, and,... More

I've eaten in Germany many a time. This restaurant tries to mimic a southern-German, Bavarian, Austrian food and atmosphere. And fails completely. The beer does not get close and should be sold as american beer---why pretend to be something else? The food has German titles---with lots of spelling errors---but the contents are radically different, and the quality poor. Avoid at... More

My wife and I ate here the other night. The food and atmosphere were very good and the service was too. I had a veal shank which was huge and delicious. The Alsatian soup was also unusual and delicious. We had the Black Forest Cake for desert and enjoy that too. The atmosphere is a great reason to go here.... More

This place used to be huge, like a Biergarten atmosphere. It's now tamer, but still a good value for a Chicago restaurant. Lots of types of schnitzel, very good. Sauerbraten was good if you like the sweet sour flavor of cabbage/meat together which I found out I didn't. Had a nice flight of berghoff beers, liked all but one. The... More

I've been here many times and have always loved it, but we stopped into the bar earlier this evening for a quick beer and a bite and the bartender was terrible. He did not greet us and then sneered when we asked for the beer menu. He treated us poorly when we ordered food and neglected to bring us water... More

Had lunch downstairs at the Bergoff Café, ate a wonderful Italian salad (gee, at aGerman restaurant? Yep). Went back the next evening and had a wonderful meal of roast duck (husband) and jagerschnitzel (me). Both meals were excellent and topped off with a decadent slice of german chocolate cake. The waitress was the best- just sorry we could not make... More

A perfect stop to fill up on great food and beer on a cold day. It has not changed much since our first stop many years ago. Our daughter liked the pretzel...a lot.

My family has enjoyed Berghoff's since the 60's and now it too, as a third generation can say I will brings daughter here. The staff were attentive, the food was hot, fresh and authentic. We had a Taste of Berghoff's which was a sampling of their famous dishes and an apple strudel all for $18.95. So much food that we... More

We were in the typical tourist attire and regretted that the moment we stepped into the Berghoff. We felt very out of place and were seated in a less than desireable location because we were in shorts, tee shirts and blue jeans and not nice casual or better. The bulk of the patrons for lunch were in business attire. The... More
