Description: The Berghoff Restaurant is a Chicago landmark, serving German-style cuisine and culture since 1898. One of the oldest family-run businesses in the nation, it is now run by fourth generation, Carlyn Berghoff. At today’s Berghoff, menus have evolved to add newer, lighter and more contemporary dishes, but it’s still the same old Berghoff, down to the famous root beer. Open for lunch and dinner, the Berghoff’s wide variety of appetizers, salads, sandwiches, and entrées is sure to satisfy everyone in your party. With fresh ingredients, seasonal menus and vegetarian & gluten-free dishes, it's “tradition with a twist!” Private Dining - Berghoff Catering & Restaurant Group provides a truly unique event experience within the setting of the historic Berghoff building. A friend insisted I go to Berghoff's when I was there for a conference in December. I was afraid it would be a musty landmark serving staid traditional German fare. I was happy to be wrong! They offered well-made German favorites plus modern offerings as well. Nice beer selection and good pours on wine and spirits.

Really... Really... Really can not say enough or give enough superlatives to our evening at Berghoff's in Chicago, and we almost missed the entire experience!!! But what a way to finish off our vacation. We had somewhere / somehow heard about Berghoff's and it also came highly recommended, so as the last major dinner of our last night in Chicago... More

I was really impressed with the food at the Berghoff Cafe. The interior is decorated very old-worldly. They have samples of dishes sitting on the counter as you make your way through the line so you can see what some of the dishes actually look like when they are served. That's how I chose the grilled chicken panini, which was... More

I went here on a solo trip to Chicago several years ago and had been raving about it to my best friend ever since. Naturally, when the opportunity rose for us to return together, this was our first stop after checking in to our hotel. While the menu had changed, the warm atmosphere and excellent food selection had not. We... More

We visited the downtown Berghoff Restaurant during the holiday season. It was beautifully decorated for Christmas with such old world charm that I felt as if I was in another time and country. This restaurant has so much history and the ambiance is truly delightful. Although it was extremely busy we were able to enjoy a leisurely lunch. We ordered... More

Stepping back in time to a traditional German style restaurant. They be their range of beers which adds to the pleasure. I went to the restaurant for a more hearty feed. The start was the Apple and Onion soup, very tasty, followed byJäger Schnitzel, for that real german taste. Also a great place to watch people and see the variety... More

Truly a treat in downtown Chicago, near the Federal Building. Very good food, with many authentic, tasty German dishes. We were warmly greeted, the service was fantastic, and the pricing was reasonable. The ambiance is very relaxing, and is suitable for either a business lunch or a social getaway. It just feels like a happy place. Don't miss it.

I had always wondered about this restaurant and figured it was out of my price range and out of my league, but on the spur of the moment I ended up there with a friend for lunch. It sounds silly, I know, especially since I am over 60, but it felt like a serious, "grown up" restaurant. Maybe I mean... More
