The Berghoff Restaurant is a Chicago landmark, serving German-style cuisine and culture since 1898. One of the oldest family-run businesses in the nation, it is now run by fourth generation, Carlyn Berghoff. At today’s Berghoff, menus have evolved to add newer, lighter and more contemporary dishes, but it’s still the same old Berghoff, down to the famous root beer. Open for lunch and dinner, the Berghoff’s wide variety of appetizers, salads, sandwiches, and entrées is sure to satisfy everyone in your party. With fresh ingredients, seasonal menus and vegetarian & gluten-free dishes, it's “tradition with a twist!” Private Dining - Berghoff Catering & Restaurant Group provides a truly unique event experience within the setting of the historic Berghoff building. To me the Berghoff brings back memories of power lunches, powerful people and energy. The updated version sadly has none of that. Now don't get me wrong the food was very good as was the service but the place is for tourists and its peak is in the past. The main room reminds me of a cafeteria... read more

We walked into this place just by chance and were very happy we did. We came in for lunch and it was fantastic. Tuna melt sandwich was great. Also the soups were hearty and excellent. I would go again next time in chicago.

I had lunch here during a two day business trip. I had the chicken parmesan sandwich with chips. I enjoyed the ambiance and the food I would definitely recommend this place.

Four of us had lunch at the Berghoff yesterday. Try the giant pretzel to start with and the different dipping sauces. Two of us had the selection of game sausages which were very tasty. This is not the most traditional German food but that's becoming difficult to find in the Chicago area.

Our party of five really enjoyed our dinner at the Berghoff! A great menu provided plenty of selections .... new and old world choices. We all loved the ambiance, beer, and desserts! A great choice for couples, families, or business associates!

I've been to Germany several times and was hoping to get traditional German food at Berghoff's. What a disappointment :( My Weiner Schnitzel was tasteless and actually looked like it had been frozen and not hand pounded at the restaurant. The potatoes were a glob of sliced potatoes fried on a flat top so the only brown parts were on... More

While in Chicago a couple of months ago, we decided to find restaurants around the hotel that we could easily walk to. We didn't have a car. This spot was just a delightful gem of Chicago history. We haven't good German food in a long time. We both ordered different schnitzel dishes. Could left the knife in the kitchen, it... More

The Berghoff, a Chicago landmark and restaurant since 1898, is a place to go to just for the history. This huge German Bar and restaurant has been here since before those prohibition days. The ambiance is certainly old world with beautiful massive wood work interiors; just what you would expect from an old German restaurant. This is a large restaurant,... More
