The Berghoff Restaurant is a Chicago landmark, serving German-style cuisine and culture since 1898. One of the oldest family-run businesses in the nation, it is now run by fourth generation, Carlyn Berghoff. At today’s Berghoff, menus have evolved to add newer, lighter and more contemporary dishes, but it’s still the same old Berghoff, down to the famous root beer. Open for lunch and dinner, the Berghoff’s wide variety of appetizers, salads, sandwiches, and entrées is sure to satisfy everyone in your party. With fresh ingredients, seasonal menus and vegetarian & gluten-free dishes, it's “tradition with a twist!” Private Dining - Berghoff Catering & Restaurant Group provides a truly unique event experience within the setting of the historic Berghoff building. Old fashion german place in The Loop, good food

It is like going back in time when entering The Berghoff Restaurant. The style with wooden walls and massive ceiling timber, and the Berghoff family portraits hanging on the wall puts You back to old time Europe. Almost closed a few years ago, since the third generation of Berghoff turned 70 - but... read more

My wife and I were looking for a place to grab a beer during our afternoon in Chicago. We spotted the Berghoff Restaurant and noticed a sign next to it saying The Berghoff Bar, and we noted it has its own brewed beer. That was enough for us, so we stepped in...immediately took us back to a few places we... More

Went to lunch hoping for a genuine Chicago-German meal. The Berghoff sounded like the place to go---We were very disappointed. The schitzels were only ok, but the sauces tasted like they were from a can--definitely not fresh mushrooms in the Jager sauce. My wife's fried potatoes tasted like lukewarm dishwater, and my spaetzle tasted bland and doughy. The chilled "asparagus-pepper"... More

Great place, great food and great beer. Popped in for lunch as our city guide recommended it for people who like German food, which I love. Schnitzel was very good, as was all our food. Service was great and reasonably priced too.

My husband had the Game Sausage Plate with Boar, venison, and duck sausages, root vegetables, spätzles, Madeira sauce and he loved it! I had the Stuffed Sole with Dungeness crab, rock shrimp and spinach over a green pea risotto. Delicious! Relaxed atmosphere!

After a tiring day around Chicago, we had dinner at Berghoff. I had the spiced Chicken, not particularly German food, but it was delicious. All the Gluten Free foods are clearly labelled on the main menu, and there is a variety of different choices. The overall service was also very good too, a rather enjoyable meal and nice interior of... More

It looks like and almost feels like a German beer hall. It's Chicago USA, so the menu reflects that. It would make many happy who don't like the heavier German fare. For example the lamb chops with salad was a large salad with 2 chops on top. Lighter fare. Nice - but not German. The German food we tasted and... More

As part of our Route 66 experience we chose to dine at this iconic restaurant. The ambience is nice, warm tones and a good feeling. A good selection of breads appeared immediately with our water and the service was attentive. The applewood bacon wrapped shrimp were succulent and the stuffed mushrooms very good. The traditional main dish of 3 types... More

Being with german to this "institution " in Chicago, but was so disappointed, the food has only a german name and not the flavor...That was a friday night and the place was not packed on the good side the service is very good. So if they make an effort they will maybe gain back their reputation. That was expensive too... More
