The history of The Berghoff is definitely interesting. The original cafe dates back to the late 1800's. A true Chicago institution. This restaurant is definitely capitalizing off of its long history in Chicago. I had the weinerschnitzel. It was good but dry. It needed some gravy. The potatoes were tasteless and unappetizing. We were in Chicago for a long weekend and try to avoid the homogenous faceless chains. We happened upon the Berghoff and loved the food, service, ambience and history. Simple food, generous portions, great quality and pleasant service.

Our party of four enjoyed dining here very much. My dish included four game sausages: Duck, Wild Boar, Venison. I cannot remember the fourth. My wife's pork chop was good, but not memorable. We enjoyed the tasty home made beer, and the wait staff was extremely friendly and helpful. Generally speaking it was a delightful experience.

Not what it use to be but still awesome. Go with the classic German dishes and you won't be disappointed. Their beer are equal any quality craft beer. Le them pair THEIR BEER (house brand) with your meal for maximum enjoyment.
