Description: The Berghoff Restaurant is a Chicago landmark, serving German-style cuisine and culture since 1898. One of the oldest family-run businesses in the nation, it is now run by fourth generation, Carlyn Berghoff. At today’s Berghoff, menus have evolved to add newer, lighter and more contemporary dishes, but it’s still the same old Berghoff, down to the famous root beer. Open for lunch and dinner, the Berghoff’s wide variety of appetizers, salads, sandwiches, and entrées is sure to satisfy everyone in your party. With fresh ingredients, seasonal menus and vegetarian & gluten-free dishes, it's “tradition with a twist!” Private Dining - Berghoff Catering & Restaurant Group provides a truly unique event experience within the setting of the historic Berghoff building. I used to make it a point to stop here whenever I was in Chicago. Not so much anymore. A few years ago I found only one side of the restaurant open. Something about "catering" and "we really don't use that side anymore....". After going there last week I see why they don't need the whole place anymore. We went... More

I came here on a work trip, we had a table for five. I made a reservation ahead of time on open table through the trip adviser app, but when we got there our table was not ready and they didn't know anything about it. Beers took forever to get to us and we were finally seated about 45 minutes... More

Very fond memories of this place. Like many other things in life, this one is not the same. The place downtown looks the same. The food, service and overall experience are not. Our portions of food were small and very bland tasting. Our waiter acted as if we were bothering him. No wonder there was not a dinner crowd. You... More

German restaurant not where you might think to go for fish. Also, a lot of runners eat pasta the night before a race but we opted for a lighter fish dinner and were not disappointed. Three of us had the whitefish dinner which was done perfectly. I'm not a big veggie person but the dinner came with the best grilled... More

We just found this place walking by during lunchtime. It is old fashioned, comfortable, warm and basically fine if that is what you want. All 3 of us ordered different things....and all was tasty and plenty. Service was friendly. I certainly would go here again if i wanted German based food or as I wrote before comfort food. If you... It was in April 2012, my husband and I were hosting a party of about 25 people to celebrate are wedding. We reserved for a Saturday evening and everyone in the group still remembers the awesome food and ambience experience. Drinks, appetizers, Entrees and desserts were all cooked to perfection. I got a chicken entree with a cranberry martini.. My... More

I had no expectations coming in to this establishment having decided to walk in randomly. I was instantly greeted and seated warmly, and was provided with a glass of water and selection of beautiful breads before I'd even noticed. The restaurant was busy - 3/4 full, but I was served almost immediately, ordering the marinated steak dish with sweet and... More

I like the cafe, good prices, nice mix of German and Chicago food. Not the best atmosphere, but for a cafeteria, that have the best schnitzel!

We ate here for lunch on a Saturday. Our waitress was fun and helpful. All of our meals were delicious as was the beer. We were impressed by the ambiance and the food and the service. So glad we wandered in.
