Description: The Berghoff Restaurant is a Chicago landmark, serving German-style...
The Berghoff Restaurant is a Chicago landmark, serving German-style cuisine and culture since 1898. One of the oldest family-run businesses in the nation, it is now run by fourth generation, Carlyn Berghoff. At today’s Berghoff, menus have evolved to add newer, lighter and more contemporary dishes, but it’s still the same old Berghoff, down to the famous root beer. Open for lunch and dinner, the Berghoff’s wide variety of appetizers, salads, sandwiches, and entrées is sure to satisfy everyone in your party. With fresh ingredients, seasonal menus and vegetarian & gluten-free dishes, it's “tradition with a twist!” Private Dining - Berghoff Catering & Restaurant Group provides a truly unique event experience within the setting of the historic Berghoff building. Host your next event in one of our four private rooms. Contact us to start planning today!

Good for late lunch

We've been to the Berghoff a few times before as visitors so the place was familiar to us. After spending most of the day at the Art Institute, we were hungry but knew we were going to meet friends later on for dinner...so we had a late, but light lunch of soup and Reuben sandwich. The Alsatian... read more

The food here is super yummy and definitely reasonable! I got the Rueben and it was HUGE! Definitely delicious. The restaurant could be improved by adding wifi and brightening up the decor a bit, but I went for the food - not the decor - so I give the Berghoff a 5/5.

The Berghoff is where the Wife and I had our first drink 26years ago. Always have to go back for the Schnitzel. The Berghoff Brand beer is still exceptional. They did close for a while but thankfully have reopened. Dine upstairs in the Bar area and enjoy the carved meats along with excellent veggies and gravies. A Chicago tradition not... More

Lunch in the Berghoff basement was a relief for a long term fly in the ointment at the Berghoff: the snooty waiters who treated you with utter disdain. They were always short and sour and their English was heavily accented in some unknown European tongue. If you want to see a fine example of this watch the film Five Graves... More

I love old restaurants like this and the atmosphere, service and food were outstanding. Good selection for gluten free diets and make sure to try a Berghoff soda (I recommend Black Cherry). Sit in the bar area or the wood paneled main restaurant and enjoy.

The selection of food and beer in this restaurant is fantastic! And, if you need something prepared a different way, they are qite accommodating! There waiter was excellent as were the busboys. The atmosphere was also nice. The decor gave the impression of being in a "boys" club from years ago. It was really nice and comfortable! Recommended if in... More

Some time I will venture off my usual choice, but when you find a good thing you tend to stick with it. Great comfort food and craft beer.

We had a group of 10, shared 3 appetizers (pieroghis, potato croquettes, and a huge pretzel w/dipping sauces)...then each of us were happy with our entrees. I had a Pork Shank which was huge! And the flourless chocolate torte was amazing.

While the airport cafe may offer you a taste, go down to the loop and experience the real Berghoff--wooden bar, traditional German food and all. And how many places in America can you get real spatzle? Not many. I came out of there having eaten way too much but not regretting it, and that's always the sign of a great... More
