Description: The Berghoff Restaurant is a Chicago landmark, serving German-style cuisine and culture since 1898. One of the oldest family-run businesses in the nation, it is now run by fourth generation, Carlyn Berghoff. At today’s Berghoff, menus have evolved to add newer, lighter and more contemporary dishes, but it’s still the same old Berghoff, down to the famous root beer. Open for lunch and dinner, the Berghoff’s wide variety of appetizers, salads, sandwiches, and entrées is sure to satisfy everyone in your party. With fresh ingredients, seasonal menus and vegetarian & gluten-free dishes, it's “tradition with a twist!” Private Dining - Berghoff Catering & Restaurant Group provides a truly unique event experience within the setting of the historic Berghoff building. We were in the typical tourist attire and regretted that the moment we stepped into the Berghoff. We felt very out of place and were seated in a less than desireable location because we were in shorts, tee shirts and blue jeans and not nice casual or better. The bulk of the patrons for lunch were in business attire. The... More

We enjoyed our lunch here very much! We ate at the restaurant instead of the cafe, for a slightly wider variety menu. Our server was very good, and the rest of the staff we encountered seemed nice. In addition to the food we ordered tasting great, they were also super accommodating to my special dietary needs.

My mother visited Berghoff's over 50 years ago with her father and with my father. First time she's been back in all those years and we visited for her 81st birthday. Such fun! We each had a flight of their Berghoff beers and then ordered the sampler meal. The meal was extraordinary in its authenticity and preparation. We've been eating... More

Old school service with great history in the building and design. A trip back in history. All we needed was our charleston dance dress to make it complete. Food was very authentic German style (I spent 3 years in Germany) and it was wonderful. Service was second to none, Justin was attentive and very knowledgeable about the cuisine and drinks.... More

while on a recent visit to the Windy City... passing the Berghoff looked inviting... so we stopped in for a beverage... seeing the old time charm, the woodwork and tile work was refreshing that it kept its character. only having a few beers the barstaff... both him and her,,,, they were very pleasant and attentive... worth a stop to stick... Enjoyed dinner here on a recent trip to Chicago - the food was very good, and you could tell freshly prepared. We had more than we could eat! The appetizer giant pretzel was a hoot; easily the best pretzel I have ever had. The server was also great, she let us take our time deciding, but didn't abandon us or... More

I hadn't dined here since the late 80's, but it was still very good. I would like to go back again when I had more time to enjoy a bigger meal.

We were walking down W Adams and were attracted by the old-fashioned vertical neon sign outside, and the inviting look of the rich dark wood inside. This restaurant/bar goes back to 1898 and was the first restaurant in Chicago to be granted a liquor license after Prohibition. There's a wide selection of beer on tap and good, reasonably priced food.... More

I ordered a Reuben sandwich. The "house" rye bread was mild (weak). The corned beef was passable. The homemade 1000 island dressing was tasteless and runny. Couldn't really taste the sauerkraut - probably home made also. The sandwich came with homemade potato chips, the worst I have ever tasted. No, salt, pepper or spice of any kind and incredibly hard,... More
