The Berghoff Restaurant is a Chicago landmark, serving German-style cuisine and culture since 1898. One of the oldest family-run businesses in the nation, it is now run by fourth generation, Carlyn Berghoff. At today’s Berghoff, menus have evolved to add newer, lighter and more contemporary dishes, but it’s still the same old Berghoff, down to the famous root beer. Open for lunch and dinner, the Berghoff’s wide variety of appetizers, salads, sandwiches, and entrées is sure to satisfy everyone in your party. With fresh ingredients, seasonal menus and vegetarian & gluten-free dishes, it's “tradition with a twist!” Private Dining - Berghoff Catering & Restaurant Group provides a truly unique event experience within the setting of the historic Berghoff building. Welcoming for a few drinks

We stopped twice on our 4 days in Chicago just to get a few drinks. Don't worry too much about attire in the bar area. The restaurant was a bit more upscale but we didn't feel out of place. The bartenders on both occasions were really friendly and the Berghoff pints were excellent.

The Berghoff was walking distance from our hotel, so my husband, in-laws and I ate here on the first night of our Chicago weekend trip last September. I loved how this is a Historic Chicago restaurant. We wanted to experience the city and this was a good place to start. The German/ Octoberfest theming was also a fun way to... More

Nice ambience, as you'd expect in a restaurant that's been around over a hundred years, not bad traditional dishes and pretty good contemporary offerings. We had an appetiser each (warning, the $8 pretzel is so big it is served vertically, on a stand) followed by the kassler and sauerkraut for him and a second appetiser for me. The Berghoff has... my spouse and I decided to give this place a try. Totally worth it. Even the ambience. It's a beautiful restaurant with old wainscoting and lights. Our waitress was friendly and we had good service. I had a partial view of the kitchen from where I sat. I love taking in the chaos of the kitchen atmosphere but it wasn't... More

There's a reason this is a Chicago Classic and been around for over 110 years. The food is fantastic, the atmosphere is very old school classic with lots of wood, the service was top notch, and the beer is great too. I had the veal meatloaf and it was one of the tastiest veal dishes I have ever had. It... More

I had to go to Chicago for work two weeks ago. My office booked me at a hotel in the Loop but south of the River. I thought that I was going to end up in a food desert. My flight was delayed, and I didn't make it to the hotel until 8:30 pm. I was too tired to even... More

I arrived in Chicago late in the day starving. Wanting just an adwch and salad. We found Berghoff. I'm not a lover of pub food. But both sandwich and salad were good. The service was excellent

If you like german food, this place is a gem. From reading the history, this place has been in the family for 4 generations. The menu offers schnitzels, a variety or sausages, sauerbraten, and options such as chicken cordon bleu. I was impressed with the variety of gluten-free options. The beer options are german to match the food offerings. The... More

This restaurant has been exceptional for decades. They orginally opened in the 1890's. They have had there own brand of beers before brewpubs became popular. The food and decor make this a must eat location in Chicago. I love German food...the weiner schnitzel is phenomenal as is the potato pancakes. The reuben sandwich is out of the world delicious!!!!
