Description: The Berghoff Restaurant is a Chicago landmark, serving German-style cuisine and culture since 1898. One of the oldest family-run businesses in the nation, it is now run by fourth generation, Carlyn Berghoff. At today’s Berghoff, menus have evolved to add newer, lighter and more contemporary dishes, but it’s still the same old Berghoff, down to the famous root beer. Open for lunch and dinner, the Berghoff’s wide variety of appetizers, salads, sandwiches, and entrées is sure to satisfy everyone in your party. With fresh ingredients, seasonal menus and vegetarian & gluten-free dishes, it's “tradition with a twist!” Private Dining - Berghoff Catering & Restaurant Group provides a truly unique event experience within the setting of the historic Berghoff building. A group of 5 of us stopped for lunch. None had been here before, and wanted to try something different (German food). Old historic building/charm. Service was very good. Waitress was friendly and very efficient - checked on us a couple times to make sure we were happy. I haven't had a lot of German dishes. 4 of us ordered... More

One of my favorite places in the city. Went for a few beers and appetizers before heading out with a larger group to another restaurant for dinner. This is a classic Chicago bar loaded with great history, food and outstanding service. A can't miss if you're bar hopping, or if you're looking for a great meal. The beer flight sampler... More

The restaurant has changed from what it was but still worth visiting. Very old world inside with all the wood. Not the crowds at lunch like before when you had to wait to get a table. The staff younger also but capable. A little more pricey but the beer still good and the food hearty. Lunch ran us $65 for... More

I was first here about 30 years ago and still remember the good food. They've become better, adding many gluten-free options, including a wonderful cheesecake made with a walnut crust.

This is a traditional place with many options outside of German cuisine. It is comfort food plus type of fare of large portions, hearty and at a good price. There is no gastronomic experience here but solid German food and many nice choices at a reasonable cost on the Loop. I like it a lot. The Germany style beers made... More

I used to make it a point to stop here whenever I was in Chicago. Not so much anymore. A few years ago I found only one side of the restaurant open. Something about "catering" and "we really don't use that side anymore....". After going there last week I see why they don't need the whole place anymore. We went... More

I came here on a work trip, we had a table for five. I made a reservation ahead of time on open table through the trip adviser app, but when we got there our table was not ready and they didn't know anything about it. Beers took forever to get to us and we were finally seated about 45 minutes... More

Very fond memories of this place. Like many other things in life, this one is not the same. The place downtown looks the same. The food, service and overall experience are not. Our portions of food were small and very bland tasting. Our waiter acted as if we were bothering him. No wonder there was not a dinner crowd. You... More

German restaurant not where you might think to go for fish. Also, a lot of runners eat pasta the night before a race but we opted for a lighter fish dinner and were not disappointed. Three of us had the whitefish dinner which was done perfectly. I'm not a big veggie person but the dinner came with the best grilled... More
