Old world value

The restaurant and the food hasn't really changed since the last time my wife and I were here almost 40 years ago - and that's a really good thing. The old world decor is very charming. They start by bringing a selection of breads which were great. We ate here for lunch. It's hard to get a good... read more

We stopped here recently for a snack and enjoyed one of their great beers and shared an awesome and huge pretzel with delicious dips while enoying our refreshing beers. We have eaten dinner here in their restaurant as well and enjoyed great meals and service there. Definitely worth stopping here for a snack or meal and enjoying the ambiance of... More

This is an institution in Chicago and well worth a visit, if not just for their homemade root beer and their homemade breads. Try ordering the mini brat appetizer in buns with sauerkraut, with deli mustard. It was great.

I used to go to The Berghoff when I lived in Chicago years ago and it was always a great restaurant. I understand it's under new owners now and it appears to be just a shadow of its old self. It looks the same on the inside, but the waitstaff and the food quality just didn't measure up!

Awesome root beer and pretty darn good beer. Stopped here just to try the root beer and found that they made their our beer too. I ordered a beer flight and my friend ordered the root beer. The root beer was excellent, very flavorful. The best beer of the flight was dark lager. Very smooth.

Very old-school German restaurant, with a few newer, lighter things on the menu (but really, who goes to the Berghoff for newer, lighter fare?). Excellent selection of German beers to wash down the delicious schnitzels and wursts. Service was attentive and friendly -- our waiter made sure that our beer glass was never completely empty before he asked about another... More

Speed in with coworkers for a beer before dinner. It was an interesting old place. Liked the big sign in front. The beers were real nice.

Have only been to this restaurant once in 40 years after being a regular as a young man. Either my memory is failing or this place has changed and not necessarily for the better. Kind of old and musty in a bad way.

Berghoff is a good oldfashioned German restaurant near theatreland. The food is fairly standard German fare. The portions are large and of good quality. Their selection of beers is excellent. We had very good service. I would not go out of my way to eat here.

The Berghoff Restaurant is a good place for some great German food and beer, and root beer. When you come inside, it's like a Beer Hall, lots of wood and stained glass. The food was delicious, and the portions are large. I'd certainly recommend it!!
