Maize Mexican Grill is a tiny "hole in the wall" restaurant but has great food and very friendly staff. Their hot sauces have heat AND good flavor. Due to the small size, we sometimes get carry out. Their menu has a good selection and we enjoy the flavor combinations offered. While the size of the restaurant is small, this tends... More

Our son moved to New York but every time he returns to Champaign, he heads directly from the airport to Maize. Great Mexican food, inexpensive, very fast, packed all the time. We like it and many of our friends agree. Delicious food, hot and fresh always, and packed with flavor

Very casual and crowded, but good authentic quality. Quesadillas were packed with flavor! The complimentary sauces and chips are not your standard salsa and adds a nice variation from other Mexican restaurants. The only item I do not care for is the ribeye taco. I expected sliced ribeye meat with the usual taco fillings, instead it was a thin, fat... More

Found this restaurant thru trip advisor while staying in Champaign to tour the college. Food came out sooooooo fast. And it was so good and really cheap. 2 entrees, guac and 2 sodas for $25. Be warned...about 15 seats but since they're so fast I don't think it's a problem. Right on campus, perfect for students.

If you like Mexican, this is the best bang for your buck. It's small so plan to take it to go or eat at a bar. Price is very reasonable for the quality of food

We stopped here on our way through Champaign, based on the trip advisor reviews (especially fast, cheap, delicious). We happened to be there the night before the marathon, on a Friday night, so the town was jumping. There was a steady line, made up mostly of college students, but with some older adults mixed in as well. Lots of people... More

In a midwest, college town, you don't really expect to get authentic Mexican food; this is pretty good! Everything I've tried has been delicious - especially the chorizo burrito! This place is too small and often packed, but the wait is worth it! I heard they may be updating to a bigger place soon. It's cheap and great for take... More

The food here is very cheap, fast and delicious. Unlike other Mexican Restaurants within the CU area, this one has a lot of flavor in the food that makes it awesome. Usually when you walk by their restaurant, it is filled with people, but the turnover rate is very fast so there is no need to worry about no place... More

My family ate this restaurant while visiting the University of Illinois. We were starving -- and there it was -- so we stopped in. Be forewarned, it only seats about 15 people at a counter and it is tight -- so don't go here looking for ambiance or a place to talk. You need to eat and move on. But... More

The menu just has a few items, but that is all they need. People claim this is "authentic" which always seems like an ambiguous term, so I won't slap that adjective on it. All I can say is that El Toro, Dos Reales, et all are good typical Mexican Restaurants with the same basic menu. Maize is different. The food... More
