Fine food but pricy

This restaurant is part of the Sun Valley Inn: a very nice setting. The food is good but the menu is surprisingly limited: one would expect, for example, to see Idaho trout on the menu but it doesn't exist. Portions seem small but they are ample. The food itself is tasty. But to spend >$55 on a... read more

This beautiful lounge in the Sun Valley Inn has comfortable sofas and chairs plus a few tables. It has a full bar, a long wine list and hot drinks in the winter. Although there is a pianist at the Duchin Bar in the Sun Valley Lodge, here the pianist is in the adjoining Ram Restaurant and we were not allowed... More

I ate at the Ram earlier in the year and it was exquisite, fresh and interesting food. This trip, we couldn't get a reservation before 8:30, so opted to eat in the Ram Lounge, since after all, they share a kitchen, it must be the same quality. It was packed and they only had 2 servers working the entire space.... More

We made a reservation for 6:30 pm a few days in advance since the symphony was playing. When we arrived, an older gentleman named Mitch said we should sit inside because the patio heaters didn't work and we would be cold after 7 or so when the temperature dropped. Having been to SV at least 15 times, I knew he... More

The Ram offers fine dining with prices commensurate. The food and service are of respectable quality. But what I found highly disagreeable, almost insulting, was their wine list. It is dominated with higher-end fine bottlings with prices to match. Many, if not most of the offerings are over $100 and extend to as much as $220. When offerings wines of... More

Dear frankrib, We value and appreciate all comments whether complimentary or critical. You are absolutely correct, and we apologize that your experience at The Ram did not meet your standards and expectations. We are sorry that you were disappointed with the lack of vintage years on the wine list. It was an unforgivable error on our part. We are taking... More

Not worth the prices. Dry meats, and out of the can food was served. The wine was decent, but the wait staff did not have a clue. The fish was overcooked. The choices were average. The staffs attitude, including the management, was indifferent. There was an older waiter, that did care and he did try to salvage the meal ...... More

I had a ribeye that was very tender and cooked to order. I had never had horseradish mashed potatoes, I was leery of them being a bit hot but they were very good. The green beans were delicious as well.

The Ram Restaurant is part of Sun Valley, so it is not independent nor does the chef deviate from the printed menu. The service was wonderful, Larry the piano player is the high point of our visits to the Ram. That said, we have never had a bad meal at this restaurant.

I think my title says it all. We ate at the ram for our anniversary dinner and were sorely disappointed. The menu stated that my wife salmon came with fennel and roasted tomatoes there was one cherry tomato and a slice tiny slice of fennel who knew that you had to order a side. in order to have enough. The... More

We had a very nice meal in the Ram Restaurant over the Christmas Holidays. The staff was terrific. There was a hiccup with the reservation (they lost it, but remembered me) but they quickly recovered. The food was very good, but a bit pricey. I think we just had such a great time with the cocktails and wine that we... More
