Description: The first inkling of an idea for the Sandpiper Restaurants came to...
The first inkling of an idea for the Sandpiper Restaurants came to original founder Bob Angell as he lounged on the beaches of California. While attending college he enjoyed watching the sandpipers darting in and out of the surf, and after graduation Bob moved back home to Boise, Idaho, where he opened the first of many Sandpiper Restaurants in 1971. From its humble beginnings in Boise, the Sandpiper grew until there were locations in Oregon, Arizona, and a total of four in Idaho. After several owner and management changes, there are currently two locations still open in Idaho. The Idaho Falls location was opened in 1974 by Ron Obendorf, who is still the manager. The Pocatello location opened in 1975 and has been managed by Rod Russell since 1985. Rose Anne Voigt came on as a member of the management team in 1995. Always intended to be casual fine dining restaurants specializing in steaks, seafood and pastas, the Sandpiper Restaurants continue to enjoy great popularity. Our guests have consistently bestowed us with Best Restaurant, Best Steak and Seafood, Best Fine Dining, and Best Date Place awards. Both locations offer outside dining during the beautiful Idaho summer and fall, as well as facilities for larger gatherings.

Decent steak

We went here for a nicer dinner and it is a step up from any place I've visited in Pocatello. But with anything else in life if you want nice you will pay a premium. We had the owner as our waitress so she was very good in helping with our dinner selections. The food was good and I would... read more

I'm probably more critical than most. Son is a chef. Husband's steak was cooked pretty close to med rare; mine, however was cooked med well so I can't say I particularly enjoyed it. We had the prime top sirloin which is my favorite cut. We had 1.. 8 oz and 1..6 oz. Truthfully, couldn't tell the difference. We finished with... More

Really good steaks and salads. The location is just across the street from our hotels which made it an easy walk. The service was great. Our server was very accommodating with some samples of soups before we purchased.

I prefer vegetarian and it is hard to find just nice vegetables in restaurants. I had two servings of steamed vegetables for dinner for about 5.00. Good prices, tasty and very pleasant atmosphere.

Good food, big menu, all had sea food. Big crowd, busy place. Only regret server was a little cool and not engaged.

It's all good! Great steaks and the seafood is wonderful too. Well worth paying a little more in price.

A seafood/beef restaurant not to be missed. Traveling from Salt Lake City to Jackson Hole Wyoming this was a pleasant surprise tucked away behind a Super 8 Hotel. Although the reviews were mixed, we elected to eat here because the menu touted Salmon on a cedar plank with a Gorgonzola sauce. Not a salmon fan, I was more than pleasantly... More

What a great restaurant. Staff is cool, relaxed and knowledgeable. Bartender excellent. The food was the best I've found in 50 miles of this area. Could compete with SLC and Boise easily. I ate the Sandpiper Penne - what a great dish. The prime rib is what they are known for and it is excellent too. I've not had a... More
