Mid-hike Lunch at Dog and Duck

Dog and Duck was our intended stop for lunch on our latest day hike. Footpath emerged adjacent to pub for our first visit in quite a few years. Pub was very welcoming, friendly greeting, warm feel and plenty of space in pub and garden. Nice lunch menu, had arrived with a craving for a burger or... read more

We want here for dinner at 5.30 but only offered a lunch menu because of bank holiday, menu was ok food was bland but edible, onion rings caked in oil, the reason only giving 2 stars is that we asked for wine list to be pointed out that three wines on the list they didn't have but that they did... We went for a family meal yesterday and was disappointed. The pub is comfortable, clean and the staff are friendly but the food was poor. The lamb was tough and the rib-eye steak was very chewy! The children's chicken nuggets were ok (but can't really get those wrong can you)? However the fish fingers were incinerated! I did mention the... More

I'm terribly sorry you did not have a good experience, meal or service for your birthdate meal. On the steak I do wish the waitress had brought this to our attention rather than fob you off with that reply, that is just not acceptable. This will be addresses. You should of had at least an apology and a replacement steak.... More

This is our fourth visit and its living up to its name as one of the best pubs for food. This time I had the roast chicken, which would have fed a family of four. It was delicious, crispy roast potatoes, tender chicken, lots of veg and great yorkshires. My husband thought his lamb was tasty and tender and he almost... More

So glad you popped in during your hike. Next time please ask if you fancy anything that is not on the menu we will always try and accommodate your needs., especially if we are quiet. The credit card machine was a nightmare for us and we can only apologise it just goes to show how dependant we are on machines... More

Firstly can I apologise for the problems you encountered and I do hope you visit again so that we can give you a more satisfying experience. I have spoken to the waitress and addressed your concerns. With regards to the food did you mention either of the problems at the time? If not I wish you had and we would... More

My wife and I went back to the Dog & Duck last Sunday (3rd may 2015) as its under new ownership and we wanted to see if it had improved. We were not disappointed. Firstly the restaurant has had a fresh new makeover, its light, airy and modern but retains the chic style of a family restaurant with very comfortable... More

It's nice to be appreciate for the little thing, ie: the way the restaurant has been set out so that you felt comfortable. Thank you for the kind words with regards to the food we have tried to source high quality products at a reasonable price and it looks like we are getting there. The ice cream is amazing, I... More

We visited this pub after it was recommended to us by a friend who lives nearby in redhill. As it was only a short drive from where we live we decided to pop in for lunch. The pub is set in Outwood which is a lovely wee village set in the Surrey countryside. It is a proper old style pub... More

Delicious Sunday roast. I had the lamb, which was cooked to perfection. The guys in our party of six were very impressed with the portion size - which doesn't happen often. The staff are fantastic, nothing is too much trouble - very friendly. Great value. Would highly recommend a visit. We will definitely be returning

I'm happy that you were pleased with your meal. I will look into the pudding prices again and if at all possiable I will adjust accordingly. However we do use high quality local ingredients where possiable which do generally cost more. Thanks again for the good review. Donna ( Owner) More

We haven't eaten here for a while but as the management had changed we thought we'd try it. The staff were very friendly. The variety of food on the menu was great (for meat eaters and veggies). We were impressed by the prices of main courses and then when the food arrived, the portion sizes were really impressive. Dessert prices... More
