Sushi on Second is "second-to-none" in Ketchum for creating a magical evening of food, friends and fun. Established in 1994, it is the Valley's oldest sushi restaurant, but don't let the age fool you. Head Sushi Chef Zach Venzon is at the center of a talented crew of young sushi chefs that delight in creating dishes that are as appetizing to look at as they are to eat, like their famous "Who's Your Daddy" roll. See why Bon Appétit Magazine wrote "Sushi on Second, the best sushi I've had in years."The menu consists of global cuisine mixed with a healthy dose of Northwest experimentalism that creates a truly unique culinary experience. Chefs John Rust and Ashley Weber are behind their nightly specials, which keep local diners coming back, often twice a week. Be sure to try the sushi, of course, but some of John and Ashley's current creative dishes include Grilled Alaskan Halibut with a chili lime glaze over curry rice pilaf and a cucumber yogurt salad, Hawaiian-style Baby Back Pork Ribs, Alaskan Sockeye Salmon with a citrus cream sauce over rice with avocado salad, Scallop Ceviche with wonton crisps, Idaho Kobe Beef Carpaccio, Seared Ahi Tuna and Avocado Tartare and SOS style Cioppino with Clams, Halibut Cheeks and Calamari, to name a few.The full wine, champagne, beer and sake bar is fitted with a flatscreen television to see the latest scores, snow and fishing reports. But whether you are sitting in one of the two private, screened tatami rooms or at the 20 seat sushi bar itself, all eyes in the restaurant invariably wind up on the sushi chefs. Knives a-blur, they chop and slice the finest seafood available, which is flown in fresh from locations such as Hawaii, Tahiti, Fiji and Japan by their own seafood import company, Idaho Seafood. Come in and taste why Sushi on Second has been consistently voted Valley's best restaurant for sushi and seafood.

We've tried for years to get into Sushi on Second, but during the Holidays it is always packed. Fortunately, we were able to score a reservation (albeit at the Sushi Bar) and were not disappointed. Extremely fast and friendly service, above average wine (Rombauer and Tally Chardonney for example), beer and Saki selection (no full bar). My husband and teens... More

Absolutely one of the best sushi restaurants that I've ever visited! Four of our family members shared a "boat" of new and innovative, creative sushi rolls. Fresh, fresh, fresh! Delightful new find for our first trip to Sun Valley!

We recently visited Sushi on Second with a group of friends. The service was friendly and fast and the food was done to perfection. We ordered several appetizers for our table and enjoyed them so much we ordered more for our main entree. The restaurant has large private sitting rooms which is where we sat and it made our dinner... More

The service was good and very friendly. I went with a friend who had never had Sushi and the wait staff did a great introduction to Sushi for her. While the food was very good, the pot stickers were incredible, very well done and spiced and delightfully served. Good selection of wine and saki and a full bar. Place is... More

As a regular visitor of Sun Valley over the past ten year or so, i noticed the rise of asian/fusion places have increased significantly in this resort town, so there is no lack of food choices. When it comes to japanese food though, Sushi on Second it has no real competition for miles. This place catches you off guard on... More

We have a new baby, so not to ruin anyone's night, we got takeout. They did a great job on providing all the essentials for sushi, chopsticks, soy sauce, ginger, and wasabi. The miso (which is really hard to mess up) and the squid salad was great. The rolls were blah and 'fishy'. We live in another ski town where... More

Sushi on Second is probably our Go To restaurant when we're in town with no plans for dinner. It is so easy, convenient and of great value. The fact that it is a block from our favorite movie theater might have something to do with it. If it's my wife and me, we'll usually sit at the counter and let... More

I have been coming to this restaurant for 20 + years and have never been disappointed.t is rather unusual because none of the sushi chefs are Japanese, and are both men and women. The sushi is extremely fresh, tasty with generous proportions. The entrees are very good but I usually have sushi. The sushi bas is my favorite place, but... More
