Description: For some The Pioneer Saloon is the first restaurant to head to when coming...
For some The Pioneer Saloon is the first restaurant to head to when coming into town and the last place to go before leaving. For others, it's where they met their significant other, perhaps over a bar marg. The Pioneer Saloon, renowned for perfectly aged, tender and flavorful beef, is typical of an earlier Idaho where ore wagons rattled down Main Street and business was done with a handshake and a drink. Natural woods, mounted game, and period firearms help recreate an authentic saloon atmosphere. Duffy and Sheila Witmer have been the sole owners of the Pioneer Saloon since 1986. Today, with their children, Alyson, Chloe and Dillon, they strive to honor a historical classic while bringing new ideas to Ketchum's restaurant scene.

"Great Food In Ketchum."

My wife & I ate here for dinner, & we both enjoyed their great seafood & a huge spud. Service was very good, & the meal was the best value in town. Salsa & chips were great, while we were waiting to be seated.

We chose to eat here as we've been wanting to try it for some time. We went early and it was already a bit crowded in the dining room. We were sat at a tiny table which was right on top of the table next to us. Luckily they were a nice couple. My husband's steak was cooked unevenly and... More

Be prepared to wait for dinner at any time you arrive. Kinda worth the wait. The salads are fresh and the entrees are predictable. However, the spuds are the best baked potatoes I've had in a long time. Do you hate steamed potatoes in foil as much as I do? Noise level and elbow room challenging.

This place is a fun stop for a beer at the bar. Stay for a dinner you will enjoy as the saloon is atop Ted restaurant. Their artichoke appetizer is wonderful. The atmosphere is eclectic and fun. The staff is friendly and attentive. Prices are reasonable relative to other restaurants.

Heard all about it from locals. Tried to walk in one night but wait was over an hour. They take no reservations, so plan for a wait, or go earlier in evening. Good bar choices, great food selection. Service was excellent. Went with the rib-eye and wasn't disappointed.

DoctorCompRhet offers another reader-oriented review: This very popular Ketchum institution doesn't take reservations, so either get there early or be ready to wait for a while, either in the nicely appointed bar or as you wander through the pretty town of Ketchum window shopping. Once inside, you'll find a comfortable, informal Western theme, with many animal heads on the walls... More

We were there tonight for my fiancé's birthday dinner. We had the kabob while we waited and it was very tasty. It took a while to be seated due to the business, but it was ok. We had a great spot and really enjoyed our dinner. The atmosphere was fantastic!

You can never go wrong if you have dinner at the Pio, and you always take a "doggie bag" for the next meal.

When we walked in there was quite a wait. We asked about sitting at the bar and were encouraged to do so. As soon as we sat down there, we were welcomed and received fine service all evening. It appeared to us from our vantage point at the bar that they did their best to keep those waiting (and there... More
