Description: For some The Pioneer Saloon is the first restaurant to head to when coming...
For some The Pioneer Saloon is the first restaurant to head to when coming into town and the last place to go before leaving. For others, it's where they met their significant other, perhaps over a bar marg. The Pioneer Saloon, renowned for perfectly aged, tender and flavorful beef, is typical of an earlier Idaho where ore wagons rattled down Main Street and business was done with a handshake and a drink. Natural woods, mounted game, and period firearms help recreate an authentic saloon atmosphere. Duffy and Sheila Witmer have been the sole owners of the Pioneer Saloon since 1986. Today, with their children, Alyson, Chloe and Dillon, they strive to honor a historical classic while bringing new ideas to Ketchum's restaurant scene.

I was at the Pioneer Saloon early-ish in the dinner service. I was seated promptly, but it took my server about 10 minutes to figure out that I was there. After that, it was a very satisfactory meal. The dinner salad was particularly nice and the grilled vegetables were excellent. Be aware that this restaurant is packed full of tables... More

We had steak, prime rib, lamb, and halibut. All were outstanding. Service was impeccably perfect. Potatoes were huge and delicious. Yes, a little crowded and if you aren't early, you have to wait. Very interesting décor, cozy place.

Having dined many times at Pioneer I expected the food to be better. The salad with homemade Blue Cheese Dressing very good. We used a coupon from the Movie Theater for a free Margarita, not the best I've had. I ordered the Trout and it came with all the skin on it which wasn't a big deal but the fish... More

For decades, really, we've been coming to Ketchum and salivating as we go up Highway 93 knowing that we're getting closer and closer to the Pioneer Saloon right in the middle of town. There's so much to love about this place. The décor is a mix of the outdoors and the Wild West. I always covet the large displays of... More

I asked a couple of guys at a gas station where to go for a good steak. They all said "Pioneer Saloon". They were RIGHT! I sat at the bar since I was by myself, The bartender, Tyler, was the best! Of course I odered Prime Rib. It was the best I've had in a long time. I was told... More

Great prime rib! This is their specialty and it shows. Very good food and atmosphere. It can be a bit chaotic but still fun and worth a visit!

Having traveled to the area several times, we always wanted to try the Pioneer, but things always seemed to get in the way. Not this time. We arrived early and had the choice of seating. We chose to have a seat at the bar for a drink, and met Tom, our bartender. He warmly greeted us and served us promptly.... More

We chose to eat here as we've been wanting to try it for some time. We went early and it was already a bit crowded in the dining room. We were sat at a tiny table which was right on top of the table next to us. Luckily they were a nice couple. My husband's steak was cooked unevenly and... More
