Description: For some The Pioneer Saloon is the first restaurant to head to when coming...
For some The Pioneer Saloon is the first restaurant to head to when coming into town and the last place to go before leaving. For others, it's where they met their significant other, perhaps over a bar marg. The Pioneer Saloon, renowned for perfectly aged, tender and flavorful beef, is typical of an earlier Idaho where ore wagons rattled down Main Street and business was done with a handshake and a drink. Natural woods, mounted game, and period firearms help recreate an authentic saloon atmosphere. Duffy and Sheila Witmer have been the sole owners of the Pioneer Saloon since 1986. Today, with their children, Alyson, Chloe and Dillon, they strive to honor a historical classic while bringing new ideas to Ketchum's restaurant scene.

We went into a packed restaurant with great ambience and got the last table. We both ordered the Shrimp and both had a few that were mushy that we couldn't eat. We hate complaining but we whisper to the waitress and she took one meal off the tab. She was a very good waitress for as busy as they were.... More

We descended on the Pioneer twice in one week with a full house of 7 adults and 6 kids aged 0-8. They could not have been more welcoming. We had a fabulous time hanging out in the bar booths eating a few appetizers and having drinks. They tolerated our insanity with complete aplomb and made us feel welcome. This is... More

On a recent visit to Sun Valley, we did the tourist thing and tried twice to go to the Saloon for dinner. First time we arrived at 6:30pm and there was an hour wait. (!) Second time, we arrived at 5:15pm and had to wait until 5:30 for the dining room to open. But it was so worth it as... More

I went here with my wife who has been here many, many times. They have a family home just a few miles away. I had the bone in ribeye and I have to say that it was the cheapest bone in ribeye that I have ever had. Typically you will pay well over $50 for one at a nice steakhouse.... More

We went to The Pioneer Saloon the first night of our trip (Saturday) because of the TA reviews and we wanted to experience local charm. We arrived shortly after 5:00 since they don't take reservations and we read the comments about wait times since they seat people on a first come first served basis. When we arrived, we met a... This place is of course a must do in Ketchum when there. I love it, but it was my girlfriends (we are 60) first time. I love that is has not changed ANYTHING since the 70's. She thought it was tired. My prime rib was great. Her fillet medium rare was dry. I tasted it, it was. Too bad. Pio... More

The Pioneer is always our first stop when we arrive in sun valley. We always have the artichoke as an appetizer, but you need to order it early as they sell out fast. We also enjoyed the filet and huge potato. My son had the shrimp and chicken grill and he loved it. The Pioneer is loved by locals and... More

Fun place with good drinks and a full on western vibe. Food was decent and the staff were very nice. Worth it for drinks for sure.
