A sushi chef in Hailey, Idaho recommended Shige as the best place to actually eat sushi and not just fried fish in a roll with cream cheese. They have a small selection of cold sakis and when I asked the chef what he would recommend for sashimi, he chose what was fresh. I wouldn't say it was the most artful... More

Shige is one of the most established Japanese Restaurants in Boise. Yesterday, my wife and my mother-in-law ordered unagi-don and beef sukiyaki, respectively. They were reportedly tasty enough, but the unagi-don was not the typical slab of unagi on rice -- it was small, thinly sliced sushi-sized pieces, distributed across the top of the rice to make it look like... It was obvious from the minute that we walked in, something was wrong. There was nobody there to seat us, so we finally asked a waitress for a table and she sat us at one of the hibachi tables in a dingy looking room. The second bad sign was that the customers at the other hibachi table looked half asleep,... More

poor service, sushi was not that fresh. Avocados on the rolls had turned color. Used my Groupon at this place, thank God because I would been more upset if I had to pay full price for this meal. I will never return to this place.

I travel quite a bit for work. While in Boise, I always make time for Shige in downtown. Simply one of the best Sushi restaurants I've ever been in. Love the Rainbow Roll - make sure you ask for crab salad on top!

I have been visiting Boise for years and always make Shige one of my must do dinner stops as they used to be pretty much the only sushi place in Boise as well as one of my favorites anywhere. However over the last 5 years they have just slowly been declining and the environment getting more and more run down... More

We celebrated my birthday dinner at Shige Japanese Cuisine in Boise. A quick note, the restaurant is on the second floor, we walked right past it before finding it. Since it was early on a holiday weekend, we were the only two around the grill. There were 8 seats available for we had a personnel chief. The food is cooked... More

This place has great sushi. The teppanyaki is very fresh and good portions. Great Value. They are a bit turn and burn. we love to go with friends or the kiddos.

We have eaten at all of the Shige locations, and while the premise is there and the food is fine, they come off lacking. The service is haphazard... sometimes too slow, sometimes overbearing, often getting orders wrong or forgetting drinks. It's an interesting stop for the change in food, but lots better choices in Boise.
