Tried MacElwee's after recommendation from the tourist center on the island. Some of the best fried shrimp ever. Came with coleslaw, hushpuppies and we chose baked potato. All were great. Don't know why people would go further out on the island this with neat spot right on the main drag. Service was excellent and prompt. Food was hot, fresh, and... More

If you are on Tybee Island, then you simply have to eat shrimp. We went to MacElwee's following the advise of a local, and sure don't regret it. The shrimp were cooked three ways but the best were the bacon wrapped ones. So plump, fresh and juicy. After eating nothing but frozen shrimp in Canada this was pure delight. If... More

Loved on the island 5 years. First visit here. Most locals don't eat here. Go oysters and they were good. Large party. Everyone happy with food and service. A little pricy but not bad. Would come back for sea food.

Service and food not as good as expected. They were not crowded for lunch and we had a party of 6, but it took time to get our food although we didn't order anything special.

Well we needed a place to eat and after trying a few locations we ended up seeing this location. We waited about an hour but it was worth every minute because from the appetizer till dessert it was amazingly delicious. We saw a table order the crab dip and we ordered and it was too good. We almost licked the... More

My sisters and I spent a week on Tybee Island. Discovered MacElwees on our 2nd day. Enjoyed the food so much we went back 2 more times in that week. We were not disappointed once. Crab Stuffed Flounder....excellent. Fried shrimp...excellent. Lynn's favorite...excellent. I could go on and on. We got the same waitress each time. Heather was a sweetheart. On... More

Went to MacElwee's with a group of 8. Everyone pretty much enjoyed their food. I had the snow crab and shrimp platter which was really good, and you get a nice helping of food for $23. (Another guy in our group ordered a similar platter at another restaurant for the same price but got less food.) Husband had raw oysters... More

There was nothing about this place that was memorable. The fried calamari was not fresh and the breading was bland. My husband had Mahi Mahi pasta dish and for a man who cleans his plate, he didn't finish it; which tells me he only ate to satisfy his hunger. I got some sort of sampler platter that I can't remember... More

Cozy, well appointed seafood restaurant with great food and reasonable prices. A very deserving great alternative to the other known and well advertised seafood restaurants on Tybee Island.
