A nice beach area restaurant

My companion and I ate at McElwees in February, when many places are closed, and were pleased with the food. We had the Mahi Oscar and pasta with asparagus tips and artichoke hearts. Both were very good. I think that the food was as good as Sundae Café for that one meal and the dining area is... read more

The breading wouldn't stay on the seafood. I had the seafood platter. The best thing on it was the oysters and scallops. The shrimp was not very good and the fish we had had the skin still left on it which didn't help the taste. The baked potato was not done. The slaw tasted like it just had some vinegar... More

One of the storekeepers told us after we had eaten here that it had gone down.. I don't know what it was like before, but it was not the place that reviews reflected that it was. We had fried seafood and all of us felt that it was soggy and not crisp. The french fries were also not well cooked.... More

It's just OK. Typical fare. A full menu with specials that don't ever seem to change. The place is a little outdated and could use some help.

Hey, listen. We're from Atlanta, where service is good and can be raised to an artform, so maybe we just don't get the Tybee idea of service. But when the waitresses are beyond curt and their volume level is just short of a scream, well, I think no one considers that to be good service. The good news: they told... More

I opened the restaurant door and an old lady ran to the door and stated sign your party in on the book and we will get to you. She then return outside to tell my family it will be about 30 minutes. So we decided to wait around against my better judgment. The hostess returns to state you all have... More

Food was good, fresh, and inexpensive. Atmosphere extremely casual. A good family place. This was recommended by the owner of the inn. She made additional recommendations but we needed reservations, which weren't needed here.

The staff was friendly and accommodating. The steak was excellent, perfectly cooked. The mushrooms and crab on the steak was a treat. My partner had the seafood mix--crab, shrimp and steamed clams....loved it.
