My husband and I have been going to Matthews for quite some time, our only issue is the staff change, most are now Hispanic, it is often difficult to communicate, they seem to be talking to one another in Spanish rather than pay attention to the patrons in line, I find this very offensive.

I live in Tucker so eat at Matthew's fairly frequently. It's cafeteria style, so you slide your tray along the line and tell them what you want. Always good portions. The food is always well prepared. The Fried Chicken is fabulous as is their banana pudding. It's been around for half a century, so that's got to mean something's right.

Matthew’s looks like it hasn’t changed in 50 years. There is a sort of cinder block institutional look about the place with very little decoration or warmth. The focus is on the food. The cafeteria line is short with just a few options in each category. The food is good, if not particularly memorable. Prices are very reasonable. It was... More

Wow this place was the real deal! Fabulous food at a good price. The turkey and dressing was delicious and moist. The green beans and broccoli casserole were the best I have ever had. The banana pudding was my favorite dessert but the blackberry cobbler and strawberry shortcake were also amazing! If you love home cooking this is a place... More

I have been to Matthews Cafeteria on 2 occasions, once for lunch and once for dinner. On both occasions, the place was packed. You can tell the quality of a place by its clientele and the range of people was between locals-seniors and families, mixing will "suits", business people, and even a few tourists. The food and the place is... More

The hotel that we stayed at had a list of nearby restaurants. My sister looked up a number of them on line to see their menus. As crazy as it sounds, we decided to eat here because her sone is named Matthew :) It was close to the hotel, so off we went. Nothing fancy inside -- just a cafeteria... More

My family and I tried Matthew's while in vacation after hearing about it from Diner's, Drive-in's and Dives. This is just the type of place we were looking for. Good food at a reasonable price (cheap in this case), that's a little quirky. This is definitely no frills - cafeteria-style and very modest. We came today because my wife really... More

The decor of the place isn't going to do it for you, so let's get that out of the way first. But, what they lack in decor, they make up for with really tasty southern cooked food. This is a cafeteria style restaurant, and you pick your meat, sides, salads, desserts, etc. You carry your own tray to a table,... More

We were on our way to Stone Mountain when it started to pour so we looked on Yelp for restaurants nearby and found good reviews for Matthews Cafeteria. We were pleasantly surprised. It's a place where locals go, no frills, but clean and rather charming. The food was pretty good. What looked like mac and cheese was really squash and... More

A colleague of mine recently moved from Canton, GA down to almost to the new city of Brookhaven, GA. He asked what restaurants served traditional Southern Cooking. I told him that you can't do better than Matthew's. It shaves all the glitz, glamour and trappings and serves without a doubt the best period southern period food period ever period. Fried... More
