DOWN-HOME FOOD

Matthews has been in business since the l950's and there's a reason why. The food is not from a can, is consistently good, and generations have felt like they have eaten grandma's cooking. The chairs, tables, etc. are all old -- not a modern place -- but the walls have a new coat of paint and the... read more

I ate here for lunch and had chicken pot pie and 2 vegetables. All I can say is that it was great! Everything was the perfect temperature and sweet tea is excellent. It is a bit expensive but you can't get good veges everywhere. Roll or cornbread is great too.

Was in town on business and decided to visit Matthew's for lunch. After seeing them on Diners Drive - ins and Dives was looking forward to going. Had turkey and dressing and it was delicious. Strawberry shortcake was to die for. Won't win any awards for decor but the food was really good. Will definitely be back.

We visited Atlanta a few years back and found this place from the Food Network. They have the best fried chicken and southern comfort food you could ever want to eat.

First time at Matthews after hearing many positive reviews. I was fully expecting the old timey charm and home cooking and while it had those elements there were some things I did not enjoy. Our bill for the four of us was $41. Seems a bit pricey for lunch. My turkey and dressing had several tiny pieces of bones. Overall,... More

If you want to eat in a cafeteria for memory sake then head onto Matthew's Cafeteria. I hadn't eaten there in years and it was not what I remembered... or just forgot. It is primarily Southern food... much of it fried. I don't eat out often so I will probably wait another few years before using my time and money... More

It still looks like the 60's and it still tastes like the 60's. Cafeteria line food that is hands above the chains that claim to be home cooking it's hard to find anything here that you think came from a can. Weekly menus change by the day for proteins and some veggies but you're always going to find the mashed... More

A true family run diner that has endured and thrived in a competitive environment - this is true food that is great at a fair price.

The food is quite good, but expensive. Yesterday, for lunch, I met a couple dozen friends at Matthews. My sausage and kraut was enjoyable. The green beans were better than I find most places. My cherry pie was quite good - not homemade, but quite good. Most in our group had the breaded pork chop with a variety of salads... More
