The Basket Bakery originally began as a wholesale bakery with a small additional luncheon room, operated by the Frieses, a German couple. As the bakery’s customers grew, so did the popularity of Hilde's extraordinary cooking. Now in its third location, The Village Corner German Restaurant includes a traditional style German tavern, a European bakery and a cafe style dining room that serves breakfast, lunch, dinner and Sunday brunch. A traditional German menu contains potato pancakes, Black Forest ham and Weiner Schnitzel among other selections. Our artistic and decorative bakery cakes are worthy of any special occasion. In addition The Village Corner boasts a wonderful banquet room that facilitates weddings, receptions, rehearsal dinners, parties and much more.

Good food & beer

Enjoyed our dinner and the variety of food. Good sausages and red cabbage. Nice baked goods too in the front of the place.

I felt totally ignored last Friday night when my family was asked to wait while they got a table ready. 20 minutes went by and not a word. They were not busy nor were we requesting anything special. Just a table for 5 adults and 2 children. I have been here before and wish and remembered better things. They looked... More

We really enjoyed our meal. We started with a GIANT pretzel suggested by our waiter. It was great. My husband had meatballs and cabbage and I had pecan Georgia chicken. Both of our meals were excellent. The service was good. It was definitely worth the stop.

The food is pretty good. The beer selection is decent. There is a Banana Hefeweizen that's good and a raspberry blend not quite sweet enough to be a lambic. The spatzle is really good. The red cabbage too. The sauerkraut was a little weak. While the hamburger steak wasn't my cup of tea it was as described. It came on... More

We stopped here for a late lunch after leaving stone mountain. Husband had a schnitzel sandwich and I had a turkey/cheddar sandwich. Both were excellent! Our waiter was friendly and attentive. Lots of beers to choose from. Attached bakery was good as well. Definitely would go back.

Four of us stopped in for lunch on our way from Decatur to Stone Mountain on a very cold day. Very appealing from the outside and looking forward to having German food. We tried the usual German fare and home made beer. Everything was great food and service. They also have an excellent bakery of fresh baked goods. Great stop

This place is a pastry wonderland! Serving authentic German food, I had the Saurbraten and it was delicious! There is a bakery attached that has the best Apple bread.

We are here before heading to stone mountain in the afternoon. Service was friendly and helpful. Food was amazing! I started with an Irish coffee which was perfect. Our table had the giant pretzel, potato pancakes, smoked sausage and even a hamburger for one of the kids. We all said we wished we were hungrier so we could have tried... More

We ate lunch here on Sunday 12/20/2015. This was our 2d time here while visiting family in Georgia. I am of German extraction and it is not often you can find genuine German cuisine. This place has got it. First I strongly recommend the fruit appetizer. I know that may sound silly, but you will be surprised at what you... More

My family was staying at Stone Mountain but ventured out of the park for dinner and came across this quaint German restaurant with attached bakery. The food was so delicious and the bakery items were amazing too. My family split a large platter of food and everything was utterly amazing. Highly recommend this restaurant.
