My husband Will and I were visiting my family in (Sandy Springs) Atlanta to celebrate the arrival of their first granddaughter. We traveled with them to their mountain retreat in Big Canoe, an hour north of Sandy Springs for several days and had the opportunity to dine at Appalachia, their favorite restaurant five minutes from their home. The ambience of the... More

If you go to the Appalachia Grill make sure you go early as the waiting line at 5:00 p.m. (especially on a Friday or Saturday) is out the door and down the street. The steaks are excellent and the salads are as well. The prices are average for a steak and seafood restaurant so be prepared to spend at least... More

The AG is a very good, upscale restaurant in the woods. There are not a lot of restaurants to choose from in this area. With that said, in my opinion this is the best restaurant in the area. My latest meal consisted of the pork chop with mashed sweet potatoes, and green beans and my husband had the 8 oz... More

This restaurant is always an excellent place to eat with fresh food and ingredients. It is a reliable place for a good meal and they have a nice wine selection as well.

My husband and I own a timeshare at Big Canoe and dine here twice a year. Tonight's dinner was a major disappointment. Upon entering, the hostess could not find the reservation we had made the day before. When were were brought to our table the scent of mold/mildew in the dining room was so overpowering we asked to be moved... More

My wife and I were staying at the Amicalola Lodge and needed a great place to celebrate her birthday. We drove out to the Appalachia Grill and were nicely surprised. The place had a rustic feel but with a modern design. The food was awesome and the service amazing. Dinner with drinks was around $70 but it was worth it.... More

The ribeye I was served was a rotten piece of meat that smelled up the entire table. I was sick the majority of the next day. The server was offended that I asked her to take it back.

Krissy and her staff created a wonderful Sunday morning buffet brunch for our wedding party of over 50 people following my nephew's wedding. All of us were headed for home, to points several hours north and south of Georgia, and the delicious bacon and eggs, potato hash (yummy!), French toast, smoked salmon, granola with yogurt and fresh fruit comprised the... This is one of those places where you can be surprised, and sometimes surprises can go either way! We were staying in the area and had been out hiking most of the day, and were looking for quick, inexpensive and simple options for dinner. The place, from the outside, looks like it fits the bill (after all, it's called a... More
