We loved it, you were in an old bank, with a fault and beautiful, metal ceilings and carved doors that were beautiful.

Definitely worth a stop in for coffee or iced tea while sitting inside the old bank vault papered with confederate bonds. Housed in an historic bank building, this cafeteria style dining room is eroding due to poor maintenance. Service is good food is sub-par.

If you like viewing history...this is a place for you. They had a bunch of newspapers from way back in the day. It was interesting to see. Considering the place is located in an old building this atmosphere is not fancy. They had a picadelly style restaurant. Otherwise the place was alright. And the service was very friendly.

This is a rather old building and the food is cafeteria style. This is not anything fancy! They had only 3 or 4 meats and a pretty good selection of vegetables. However, the food was delicious! The portions were nice and everything was well seasoned. Even the sweet iced tea was the best I think I've ever had. I would... More

Same menu every day of the week - week after week after week. Go early because the food sits there for a long long time. The mac and cheese was good.

The outside of this restaurant looks charming, but don't let the looks deceive you. You know the smell of a tired, dirty old "greasy spoon" diner? Well, the second you walk through the charming door, the smell smacks you in the face. Sure, there is a lot of history in this old building, but water-damaged spots in the ceiling don't... More

We ate at the Old Colonial on a Friday evening. The food is served cafeteria-style and there was a fair selection of meats and vegetables. The vegetables seemed to be canned or frozen. Fried chicken and pork chops were available, but no one in our party tried these dishes. The staff was cordial and service was average. The historic building... More

You walk into the old turn of the century buildings and get into a cafiteria line. The food is your average southern soul food. It was very good but nothing to write home about. Good value and good service. It is located in old bank building with the vault still intact. They have old rail road money wallpapered in the... More

My brother told us what a nice little town Maddison was so we went thru the town on our way to North Carolina from Florida. We happen to see the building and thought it would be a neat place for lunch. The food was good and the atmosphere was even better. If it was fixed up a little it could... More

I love quirky little restaurants, I adore old venues, I don't mind a little rough-around-the-edges, and I particularly love eating at local places when I'm traveling. So Ye OId Colonial should have been a home run. But, and I hate to say it...it just really wasn't that good. I'm in the middle of a longer road trip, researched restaurants on... More
