My brother and I stopped by Cakes & Ale for a drink and some appetizers. We really enjoyed the appetizers and the atmosphere. We're really looking forward to going back and trying a full dinner!

This is one of our favorite restaurants, hands down. The only reason I believe it doesn't merit 5 stars is that the chef is a little pretentious. However, my fiancé and I will gladly deal with his "holier than thou" attitude, as long as it is served with a side of bacon mayonnaise (genius).

Wonderful food. Everything was very fresh! Parking is a little bit of a challenge since there is no dedicated lot or valet. Street parking is limited but there is a deck near by. The space is quite small so I would definitely get reservations. The staff are great. We felt taken care of. A decanter of water is placed on... More

They brought my side order of carrots after we finished the meal and would not remove it from the bill. Not very classy. Must really need the $7!

this is well out of our way geographically for regular experiences so we tend to eat here only for special occassions...sad, since we would love to be able to experience it in smaller bits...but good since it's always an excellent experience for bigger ocassions. visited last night to celebrate our daughter's 30th birthday and once again were pleased and impressed... My wife and I were visiting Atlanta see the family of one of our children. Five of us went to Cakes and Ale on a Saturday night. I had brought a bottle of wine (no problem with the $25 corkage fee). The waiter spilled quite a bit of wine as he was filling my glass. He apologized profusely, but it... More

This place has absolutely flawless service and some of the most amazing meals that I've ever had in Decatur or anywhere else in Atlanta area - right up there with Bachannalia, without the $250 tab for 2 (ok, we got the wine pairings that one time). Everyone from the host/hostesses, servers, bartender-artisans and servers' assistants are knowledgeable and helpful. Pleasant... More

On a recent business trip to Atlanta, I scoured the internet for recommendations for great food in the area. Cakes & Ale was a frequently listed favorite so I decided to give it a try - and I have to agree with the vast majority of reviewers. The food was fantastic - an arugula salad with fresh in-season peaches, toasted... More

Riding the MARTA and stopped for lunch at Decatur. Happened to see The Bakery sign. Was able to find a stool a the counter - great choice for seating, the staff have a great sense of humor and I loved watching the exchange with each other and other customers. Had the Monte Cristo sandwich and sweet potato chips - delicious!... More

We have dined at Cakes and Ale since the first week they were open. It has been such a shot in the arm for Decatur dining as others try to come up to the new standard they set. Of the many many meals eaten there, not all have been perfect, but by far most have well exceeded expectations, and the... More
