We live summers in Ellijay and like to see a movie and have dinner occasionally. Last month we ate at El Jinete and except for too many jalapenas, we enjoyed it immensely. Last night we returned to El Campesino, which served smaller portions with similar prices, to El Jinete. We started with the Mexican guacamole. It was served in a... More

Just across GA 53 and the Kroger parking lot is a beautiful restaurant called El Campesino. Welcoming inside you are immediately seated, the manager brings over chips and salsa and your waiter delivers the menus and takes the drink order. On tap is Modelo Especial - not many places have that in Georgia. The wife ordered the fish filet and... More

Had the Steak Ranchero last night. Heavily salted and the texture was off. I found out why when I woke up at 2AM explosively ill. Here it is past noon and I still can't leave the house. Won't go into detail, but I'm dehydrated from all the fluids I'm loosing being sick from the bad steak. UPDATE: I got to... More

We just moved to town and love Mexican food. We at at El Sombrero at least once a week. We tried El Campensino hoping it was to be our new place, as it's very close to home. We were not impressed when we sat down to a table and literally were swarmed with flies. Dozens of FLIES all over us... More

We were really hungry and stopped in to get some food! The service was great, the facility is clean (including the restrooms), and the food was excellent! I ordered a combination meal and my husband ordered something from the "larger meal" section. I don't think that is what it was called, but it wasn't a traditional combo at a Mexican... More

We are regulars at this restaurant not only for the atmosphere but for the good down to Mexican food. When you arrive there is little wait time for a seat either at a booth or table. The menu is packed with items including a bargain listing as well as a side menu for lunch time. Having been there several times... More

We love El Campesino. Of course we go all the time so they know us.The portions are perfect and the food is always fresh. We've been in before and wanted something that didn't appear on the menu. After talking it over with the server, it came out just as we pictured. They are great!

OK...here is the skinny on Tex-Mex in Dawsonville. There is usually at least 1 good Mexican restaurant in almost every town. Unfortunately it is not El Campesino. Take a look at the entrance as you walk in. The sidewalk is covered with old gum. The lack of cleanliness upon entering the front door tells the story. I really don't even... More

We were on a shopping trip to the Outlet Mall and did not feel like eating at the Mall Food Court. So we drop to this restaurant. The food is pretty decent. The free chips and salsa was very good. The chips were fresh and hot....We ordered the Mexican Guacamole appetizer and we felt it was very bland. Needed salt... More

Food was not good, cheap quality meat, made me and my fiance kind of sick, way better experience at El Jine Te across the street. This is not authentic Mexican food.
