good country cooking

veggies, chicken, tea, and dessert. Good service, but closed too often. We liked that they have large tables for a big group.

I had eaten in the old house way way back and it was good. Now the food is mediocre and the service is the same. It seemed like a good idea but really is not worth the effort at all IMHO, The food is "OK" but when vacationing that is a disappointment.

It's been quite a few years since we visited The Smith House. It was much better than we remembered. In the past, if you had a small group, you were seated with other families. It just didn't feel clean. Now, they will seat you at your own table so you can share just like you would at home. Everything we... More

The Smith house is a wonderful destination in Dahlonega for the hungry traveler. If your idea of a blissful Sunday afternoon is sitting around a large table enjoying tasty southern dishes with family and friends, then The Smith House is for you! A historic location built upon a long lost gold mine, The Smith House offers a bountiful family style... More

Great food and family atmosphere along with a history lesson to boot. Went here last on our visit actually in April of 2014. A little noisy and I think just a little understaffed. Hard to keep our drinks filled. But good food.

Many people rave over this local icon but I was not impressed. The food tasted like it was dumped out of a can and warmed up. They seat you at long tables with lots of people that you don't know. Some folks like that but I'm not comfortable eating with people I don't know. The prices were very expensive for... More

Kinda expensive but a good price for basically unlimited food. Absolutely delicious selection, favs are the okra and fried chicken. Would appreciate lower prices since college students love the setting but can't afford eating there all the time.

The Smith House restaurant serves an all you can eat style meal with fried chicken, pot roast, ham, yeast rolls, collard greens, creamed corn, cole slaw, green beans and macaroni and cheese. You pay first then get your table. There are many large tables, a good place for groups of 15-20 people, but smaller tables as well. The food quality... More

This is a family-style restaurant like the Dillard House in Dillard, Georgia or the Daniel Boone Inn in North Carolina. So...if you're from New England and you want "prim and proper dining" you may want to pass, otherwise you'll be leaving a negative review about being "seated with strangers", or "they brought too much food", or the food was "southern... While on a Christmas trip we ate at the Smith House. It's southern cooking at its best. Everyone sits at big tables and passes the bowls around. It's like a family reunion only with strangers. The fried chicken wins hands down. It's all good and to top things off. It sits over a gold mine.
