I went to high school in Tampa, but never had visited Brocato's. So much for the tiny universe of teenagers in those days. Now back in Florida after 40 years in Maryland, I found this sandwich shop on Internet search while stopping off in Tampa on the way back to The Villages on 04/13. It was amazing. Of all the... More

I was in clearwater visiting my daughter and she wanted us to try a Cuban sandwich from here. When we drove up to sandwich shop it was not much to look at buy knew right off that it must be good. We were there about 1pm and the line was out the door which did move rather quickly. The time... More

Found this landmark via Google GPS by mistake and thank heavens! This is the place that Tampa students mentioned and good thing that I skipped breakfast. It was on Saturday afternoon and was on my way to Wat Mongkolratanaram but arrived there too early so restaurant wasn't open. I Googled sandwich shop and recognized the name Brocato's so decided to... More

Don't be fooled by the outside appearance of the building. This is a gem in the rough! At the recommendation of a waitress, I ordered deviled crab. I had never eaten this dish before but if what it tasted like is the norm I am IN LOVE! It was loaded with crab meat and seasoned with onions and peppers. Absolutely... More

This place, in addition to being super tasty, is the great equalizer. Day laborers, businessmen, office workers, snow birds, pimps, everyone is here enjoying the tasty food. LOVED the crab cake and the Cuban and the roasted pork sandwich was not to be missed either:)

I'm not an expert on the Cuban sandwich, but the first one I ever had was on Cuban bread and was pressed like a panini sandwich. When I visited a Cuban restaurant in Naples, FL I learned of the medianoche or "midnight" Cuban. I expected Brocato's to have the pressed version, but the sandwich I had seemed to be the... More

The place is a Tampa institution. It's packed to the walls from about 1130am to 2pm, so plan accordingly or order well ahead (a good half hour) by phone for carry out. Famous for their Devil crabs and potato balls (cooked, seasoned, ground beef, rolled in mashed potatoes to make a fist sized ball, roll in bread crumbs, deep fry... More

A friend asked me to describe Brocato's Sandwich Shop. I found it difficult to explain....The atmosphere didn't feel like a typical spot in Tampa. My only explanation was: "It felt like NYC". Fast pace, quality food, long lines, and always packed with guest. I think that pretty much summed it up.

Brocato's is Tampa history in a sandwich. From the road it may not look like much, but inside you'll find decades of pictures of the people who have chowed down on empenadas, devil crab, and Cuban sandwiches. You will NOT leave hungry! My party enjoyed a Buffalo Chicken Sandwich, an Italian sandwich, and a Cuban -- all were very generously... More
