The Black Dog makes a good cup of coffee for a great wake me up. The service is ok but not real friendly. The atmosphere is crowded and noisy inside and more spacious outside. The view is pretty with the lake and people watching is an option. I would say the average age is 20-35 yrs. olds.

Nestled next to Lake Ella, the service is adequate and the selection solid. The outdoor seating, along with the selection of books and novelties foods to buy make this a solid 4 star choice.

This is a great place to sit outside on a pleasant spring day. Good coffee, beautiful, casual deck. Why go to Starbucks?

I’ve been going to Black Dog for a while now – never been disappointed. There is a wide variety of coffees and teas – something for everyone. The location, on Lake Ella, is superb on a beautiful fall or spring day. They also have outdoor seating so you can enjoy the walkers/runners at the lake. My personal favorite is the... More

This is one of my favorite Sunday hangouts...a true coffee shop with coffee shop flavor. And great for people watching! The people behind the bar are friendly...and most know their stuff. Enough of a selection to meet most people's needs (even if you are a true coffee snob). Inside seating...but I prefer the big deck outside..which overlooks Lake Ella...a local... More

A group of about 12 like to do morning walks around the beautiful little lake on which this place overlooks. Afterwards we get coffee (or other drinks), sit outside and relax. The place is small, but has a good variety of coffee fixed like you would like. They also have a good variety of breakfast items. It's a great little... More

The best thing about the Black Dog Cafe is outside the four walls of this establishment. Hugging a beautiful corner of Lake Ella, Black Dog offers very little besides the "same ole same ole". Too bad they wasted such a perfect spot. The inside is cramped and I unimaginative and the offerings are nothing special.

Having just moved to Tallahassee with the family I searched for a cool place to hang out and sit in a smoking area outside (which they have but it is too small) and just relax, enjoy the day, and even chat with the locals. I found the Black Dog Cafe on Lake Ella and gave it a whirl for a... More

Stopped in on my way to Key West from Denver just to get off the beaten path. I thought it might be a cool place at first, but the thought was quickly erased. Nothing very hip about this place. Guy making the coffee is maybe bipolar. Not friendly at all and insulting. So I switched gears and asked for a... More

Decor gets a five star hands down, which includes the scenic "lake" view from the twinkling back patio covered in leafy vines. Sunset is the best time to visit, as this cafe has the most unique vibe of any cafe I've visited in Tallahassee; mostly because it's situated on the banks of a nicely sculpted pond with a showering fountain...
