Way too expensive

It is fair to say that Roy's can be very good - but also very poor. Hence the hit and/or miss reference. Our three meals were very good, average and poor. They do everything they can when things go wrong, but by the time things get rectified, your fellow guests will have finished their meal. This is the third time... More

We visited Roy's in Sarasota which is part of a chain. Despite the chain-restaurant connection, I never felt that Roy's was anything but a good local restaurant. Hats off to them for pulling that off. The crowd was mixed with the usual Sarasota older group (that's us, too) plus some younger, hipper folks. I liked the mix. Service was very... More

Very nice ambiance and good service. They make an effort to be special and memorable. We shared calamari and short rib appetizers and they were quite good. Main courses were mixed - my scallops were fine, but my wife's Thai style whole fish was offensively over seasoned. Taking cost into account, the overall experience was only average.

We had a prix fixe dinner last evening consisting of 4 courses and all were prepared very well. The selections were varied and allowed for a good selection of meats and fish. The service was both efficient and professional as well as friendly and caring.

We began with nice ginger martinis and samosas in the bar. The manager came by with a traditional Hawaiian flower for behind my ear.Totally yummy ginger martini, highly recommend them! The hostess came and got us to go to our table. I don't like a table near the kitchen and she let me point to a more intimate table and... More

I went in for take away food and got just that. No utensils. No napkins. It was a small container of butterfish, a small pat of rice and bok choy for $38! I had a glass of their house Cabernet while I waited for $10 and it tasted like it had been open for days. Total take away bill $50... More

We've been a huge fan of Roy's (both the restaurant and the Hawaiian chef) for years & we're delighted to see they had one in Sarasota as we recently moved to the area, We've been to Roy's in Maui, Tokyo, New York, all fantastic. Unfortunately this one misses. Too stuffy dining room, too fancy a menu. We ordered the mixed... More

We had eaten at Roy's in Las Vegas, so when we found out there was one close by while visiting Siesta Key, we wanted to dine there. Our experience in Las Vegas was great and the Sarasota restaurant was equally great. The entire experience of ambiance, service, menu choice and delicious food is well worth the cost. We invited local... More

We ended up in need of food after a family event so we found the closest restaurant. Not a fan of chains we had little options. So we decided on Roy's. It was busy for a Tuesday night, but since it was late we were able to get a table. We tried the sampler appetizer and didn't realize most items... More
