Overall, the food and ambiance were good- it's a very casual and bit of a divey, local joint, which has it's own charms, but this isn't a review about that. We were actually enjoying ourselves quite a bit with the steamer sampler and the live country band. Halfway through our meal we saw a live cockroach saunter across our table... More

The outside isn't much to look at, but this place was a good find. We sat at the bar and had shrimp, mussels, crab legs, and clams. The food is awesome. The place itself wasn't all that nice but your typical bar. They do have a large outside seating area that was nice. The staff were friendly. A good place... More

I'm a Sarasota local and have been to Monk's many times for the fresh oysters, shrimp, etc. But I am NEVER going back. The food is good, but the service is comes with a healthy dose of backtalk. They think it's funny, and edgy, but it is over the top rude and I refuse to spend my money at a... More

Stopped in a second time during our visit to Siesta Key. The first time we had the peel n eat shrimp and loved them. Never had them served warm and seasoned as they prepare them. They were so good we didn't even need cocktail sauce. My wife would never consider eating oysters but on our recent visit I got her... More

Monk's is sort of an institution in Sarasota. I have lived here for 20 years and it's always been there. Located in Sarasota's working class, funky neighborhood called Gulf Gate, it's basically a bar that serves fresh (and I mean really fresh) oysters, shrimp, mussels, crawfish, etc. They shuck the oysters and steam the other shellfish right in front of... If you have the yen for steamed seafood, than Monk's is a most stop. The oyster monkafellers are awesome. Large, meaty and tender with cheese on top. Yummy. Steamed shrimp are plump and tender and the clams great. Service was spot on and very friendly.

This a place I visit every time I go to sarasota because it is good for a good cold beer and long neck clams. The staff is very friendly.

Food was very average but the service staff was obnoxious. Argumentative and poor customer service skills.

I've lived on Siesta Key for over 10 years and never been to Monks. I'm sorry it took so long! Great deals on shellfish and portions are big, most likely you will have to split them two or three ways. The atmosphere is dark and perhaps a dive, which I like on occation and to some, an inviting allure, yet... More
