Funky and loud with very good food!

In a sea of corporate eateries and mediocre fried fish joints in Sarasota, Owen's stands apart from the rest. It was hoppin' when I pulled up! I finally got a seat at the bar and began sampling some local Florida beers. They had several on tap. My gumbo appetizer was a little thick and ricey for... read more

We are local's and this has turned into our favorite restaurant. Location is tough to find a parking space but downtown has many public parking areas, so its well worth the short walk. The atmosphere is awesome and the service is even better. Food is always good too!

Wife and I here on a Friday evening and it was monthly Art Walk and very crowded. We decided to get take out to our condo 10 minutes away. Fried Oyster Basket and Fish Camp Basket. When we got home we found both orders were mostly Fries. There was also Okra although the menu doesn't mention this. The Oysters were small... More

The fish was fresh. I had the red snapper, potatoes and Owens succotash. My husband had the grouper, dirty rice and coleslaw. We shared a piece of key lime pie for dessert. This is definitely the best meal we have had all week.

Approaching this casual restaurant, its appearance explains the name. The building is "Old Florida"; tin roof, shaded by a large banyan tree, plank floors, and a mix of fishing items and quirky posters hanging all over. Staff is very friendly and know the menu and specials inside out. Menu is a bit limited, but what is there is excellent. Location... More

What can I say? I loved every minute of this experience. The food was great. I had the sampler, fried oysters were small but the taste was amazing. The appetizers were fried dill pickles, I have had them before but these were different in a good way. Service was fast and friendly. Get there early but after 5:00 parking is... More

Owen's is a great place to go with a group of friends on a Friday night. We sat in the back yard of this "Old Florida" cottage, at a picnic table, and had ample appetizers, drinks and listened to music. You can get beer, wine and oysters in the yard if you don't want to wait for a table inside.... More

Friends we were staying with in Sandy Cove told us we were going to love the food at this restaurant and they were not wrong. Loved the 'Southern Fried' and Cajun touches to all the dishes we had. Will return for sure.

Probably the best meal of our two week trip around Florida - the restaurant is quirky, nicely decorated and fun, the service good, but the Jambalaya is one of the best things I've eaten in a while - fantastic shrimpy, smoky flavour, jammed full of delicious stuff. Nothing is quite as satisfying as a really good one-pot dish! If we... More

Stopped early afternoon which made our visit a relaxed affair as we've heard this place can be very busy. It has an interesting history. Our waitress was excellent (a pretty young lady originally from Mexico, I can not remember her name). We tipped her accordingly. The young hostess that greeted us had the kind of attitude you find in Floridian... More
