Excellent Food and Drink closest thing you will get to a sports bar on Sanibel

Doc Ford's has a great low key atmosphere. The food is good. They have good sandwiches, bar food, and the entree's looked good, but I've never had any. There are two good bars within Doc Ford's Sanibel location. One bar is in the main building and the other is in the smaller building on the side... read more

Stopped at Doc Fords while trying to tour Sanibel. Had the raw oysters & some pick and pull shrimp. Both wre very good. The oysters were big and plump and tasty and very reasonably priced as compared to restaurants in my home area. My wife had the ceviche which she loved. All in all it was a great respite after... For those not familiar with the "Doc Ford" series of books, we locals have become "hooked". Randy Wayne White is a great local writer....but THAT is for another review...LOL!! There are 3 Doc Ford restaurants, named after the main character in Randy White's legendary series. The Rabbit Road location on Sanibel is the first and has the most sports bar... More

We stopped for late lunch/early happy hour after the Ding Darling Tram Tour. Do yourselves a favor and order the Yucatan shrimp. They were so flavorful we had them 2 days in a row - ordered 1/2 lb 1st visit for 2, full lb. 2nd visit for 3 and ate every one of them. We also had ceviche (very good)... More

Stopped in at Doc Ford's after a day biking around Sanibel, just for something light. The premise for the restaurant is an interesting one - as Doc Ford is the main character in Randy Wayne White's novels, and a corner is set up for the sale of his books & other products (tshirts, hats). It was St Patrick's Day, and... More

We had reservations for 8PM and we were seated promptly - that is the best it got. Our family had 4 adults and 5 children. The waitress took our drink orders and appetizers fairly quickly. She came back with our drinks a little time later and she took our order for meals. If you want to order anything different than... More

Casual atmosphere, great dining garden. Service is friendly and relatively quick. Food is above average but there is something there for everyone - especially the Rum Bar! Can get very busy -with a long wait during the season.

Whenever we drive past the Doc Ford's on Sanibel, the parking lot is full. We figured it must be good, but we were disappointed. The service was slow and not real friendly. The food was mediocre - two of us had the scallop and pasta special, which is a frequent special and supposed to be a "signature dish." The scallops... More

Got there about 6:30pm on a Monday night and had to wait about 30-40 minutes. Its a large open place with two bars. Good seafood with lots of other options. Yummy cheese bread and great drinks ! We ordered the seared tuna appetizer, peel & eat shrimp and the oriental panko crusted grouper. Everything was delicious.
