Great food, great service!

Out of all the restaurants in Old City, I would give Cafe del Hidalgo the highest rating. I loved that the food was not heavy fast food or an expensive meal. I would say this is a must stop for your ice cream needs. It's a little confusing tho how you order. Right when you walk in you see the ice cream area to your left. You can go there to get samples but you can't order there. After you pick your flavor you go pay at a different register tell... More

I went there to have lunch with a colleague last week, I ordered the tuna salad and he had some type of panini sandwich. The salad was pretty good so I don't really have any complaints, but my colleague's sandwich was smaller than he expected and only came with chips and a pickle. It wasn't really worth the money. We... More

Those that know me know that I just love ice cream. I actually think that this place is quite cool, although why does it close so early in the evening, I remember from previous years come 9pm sorry we are closing. Not a bad choice of flavours free sampling, cheaper than Kilwins, seating inside with drinks and coffee available, Good... More

There are many good choices for lunch in St. Augustine. Not to be overlooked is this pleasant cafe featuring paninis, salads, pastries, and gelato. Courtesy, friendliness, and efficiency reign. Splitting an $8.50 sandwich doesn't raise an eyebrow. It is delivered promptly on two plates each with excellent pickle and chips and no upcharge. The pollo royalle is great. Ask for... More

We strolled around St. Augustine enjoying the sights and stopped in Cafe del Hildago for gelato. The servers were friendly and enthusiastic and were generous with their offers to sample any flavor we wanted to try. As promised, the gelato was amazing and no doubt lives up to its reputation of being the best in St Augustine.

St Augustine has a huge amount of good restaurants in an impressive variety of cuisines. This is one of at least 5 spots that sells gelato that I know of and it's the best. Staff is very friendly and will let you sample any flavor you are unfamiliar with. Portions are large and prices in line with others in the... More

Staff member providing gelato tastings was very cordial and helpful as I tried to find 3 flavors to combine for my large size gelato order. My double shot of espresso was brewed fresh while I ordered the gelato, and staff brought it to me at the gelato counter. I had the creme carmel, tiramisù, and coffee flavors, which were all... Very friendly staff, small wait time on a busy Valentine's Day weekend, good prices and gelato to die for. Would definitely come back again!

I went 3 times in this place, but it was the last time, because i had bad experience and treatment with the owner Beata. STAY AWAY FROM THERE!!!

Beata K, Owner at Cafe del Hidalgo, responded to this review

A male customer has purchased a small child size portion of gelato. Due to the blizzard in the North our delivery of small cups was delayed and we were using larger cups filling it up the amount of product purchased. Logically if somebody buys a small amount he is only willing to eat as much. The man that ordered the... More
