Description: Cabbage Key is a 100 acre island located five miles off of Pine Island, FL in the Pine Island Sound. The Inn, built in the 1940's by the family of Mary Roberts Rinehart, now houses our famous Restaurant & Dollar Bill Bar and six guest rooms. The rooms in the Inn are all different with old Florida charm - they do not have TVs, phones, or refrigerators. We have seven cottages on the island, ranging from a 1 bedroom/1 bath cottage to 3 bedroom/3 bath waterfront units. All cottages have refrigerators, televisions (no cable) and coffee makers, some units have full kitchens. Our restaurant is open seven days a week and serves breakfast, lunch & dinner. If you want to relax on a beach...we do not have one here. But, Cayo Costa is a close kayak or boat ride away. This is a great retreat to discover "Old Florida", relax with a book, fish from our docks & watch the boats go by.

We brought a group in on the Tropic Star--first visit for most of the group. Our service was outstanding and we had some of the best food I've had in a while (we are locals). Many come here for cheeseburgers--but you'd be pleasantly surprised with the nice menu for dinner! Thanks to Debbie-our server- for a fun evening.

On an overnight boat trip we came here for dinner. My sister and her husband are frequent visitors. The food was excellent and our waiter was very friendly and attentive. The story about the dollar bills is a good one - they collect the ones that fall down over the year and donate those to a local charity. I look... More

Highly doubtful that Buffet wrote Cheeseburger in Paradise about this place. The burgers are just ok and they don't even offer "French fried potatoes." Probably a great place to grab a beer after a day of fishing. Otherwise a jip joint on a jerk water island.

As stated in a management response - May 27, 2013 - Thank you for taking the time to write about your recent visit to Cabbage Key. Many a "Parrot Head" visit Cabbage Key everyday - but, the story that "Cheeseburger in Paradise" was written about Cabbage Key is a rumor started many years ago...something Cabbage Key, Inc. has never endorsed... Stopped here on a boys trip from Tampa Bay to North Captiva. Had a great time sitting outside drinking coronas and eating burgers. Great atmosphere and great spot to relax! can't wait to go back. Don't forget to go into the Resturant to see all the dollars hanging up!

Boat trip to island is fun with friends. Food average and raw burgers. Overpriced drinks in very small plastic cups. Not impressed.

Thanks for writing about your recent visit. I am sorry to hear that your burger was undercooked. We normally cook all burgers to medium. I hope that you were able to have your server bring you a fresh burger cooked to your liking. Again, I am sorry that you were disappointed with your visit and I hope you will be... More

If you have access to a boat, going to Cabbage Key is a great adventure. I would recommend getting there somewhat early ( lunch time gets very busy and you may have to wait to dock your boat) The cheeseburgers are delicious. NO french fries though so you get the choice of potato salad or cole slaw ( I prefer... More

Very busy on the weekends in season. The dock master is outstanding when you arrive and earns his tips. This is just a great place to stop for lunch if you are passing via the intercostal. The only access is by boat. Service is very friendly and the food good. You may have to wait a little if it is... More

We are happy to hear that you enjoyed your afternoon at Cabbage Key! We are extremely busy during season - we have three tour boats that stop here for lunch and regular boat traffic. If you are worried about not waiting...try arriving around 11am or after 2:30pm. Thanks again for visiting and hope you can come back soon! More

Second visit. First was fun. This time complete bummer. Sunday night (possible reason) quote Chefs Special was quote Texas Grouper. It certainly was frozen, regardless. Then came the Key Lime Pie.......Hey, they said they had been super busy at lunch. Good for them. If you're in the services sinless you're as good at the last customer experience. This one wasn't... We were sorry to hear that you were disappointed with your dinner at Cabbage Key. I am not quite sure what the "Texas Grouper" Special was. But, our fresh fish is delivered daily by local Pine Island fisheries. Our key lime pie is an old recipe that we have used for 35 years and is described on the menu as... More

The food was very good. We both had blackened mahi-mahi on beans and rice. I also had the chowder. But what made it really special was that everyone greeted us with a hello and a smile. The wait staff at lunch, was friendly, charming and yet efficient. We will go back, the boat ride was fun.

Left from the Pineland Marina in a rented boat, second time ever operating a boat and low tide to boot. Did well until we got out of the navigation channel and hung up on a sand bar nearly in front of the restaurant. Using a push pole and a little motor Zen we found the channel, cruised in, and circled... More
