After fishing with the family we came in for lunch. Had to stop at the gas station to get cash at the atm as they are cash only. Ordered, shrimp, gator and frog legs. Everything has the same dredge to let the flavor of the seafood shine through. Very simple food at good prices. Their Boston Creme Pie is phenomenal,... More

Drove by this place for years and saw the sign about their fried clams. With a New England background I was skeptical. Finally we stopped in and tried them. I thought they were great, my wife was not as impressed. Still we agree that they are definitely the best we've gotten in Florida. We have gourmet friends who travel 40... More

Been here twice, first time waitress was phenomenal, she alone for whole place which is small, maybe 10 tables. Food, exceptionally good, im from boston so i know a good chowder and essex has near best ever, no flour thickness, nice fish based broth and buttery. I wanted steamers of course, so ready to order, waitress then decides to tell... More

Fried clam roll- excellent . Fried clam strip roll- excellent. Got my mummy a lobsta roll to go. When I got home I opened the box and was truly disappointed. There wasn't even the meat from one claw! For $17 plus dollars this New England girl expected her money's worth.

Out of the way; little or no atmosphere but WOW the fried full belly clams are sensational and the portions are huge. Fried shrimp and onion rings are also excellent. The cole slaw is very good too. If you crave really outstanding fried clams, this is the place to go. Prices are excellent as well. Based on other reviews, keep... More

I have been eating at this restaurant for over 20yrs. and have done nothing but rave about it. I am from N.H. originally ,so know what good bellied clams are all about. Reading some of the new reviews it is hard for me to believe that it has gone downhill since it is a family restaurant. I will try it... More

Spent the day at Alexander Springs, and needless to say we were tired and hungry. My friend and I stopped by Wednesday night around 830-9pm. We sat outside on the nice open deck, since I had my dog with me. Service was prompt and friendly, and the beers were ice cold on a hot summer night. Although the menu is... More

We were going to eat at Lena's in Silver Springs, but found they close Wednesday's at 2 PM. So we decided to take our first try of Essex. Not worth the effort. The clam chowder was watery and not very hot with few clams. The fried clams were not up to par with big bullies. Service was pleasant, but not... More

Went with family that had been going here for years and said it was worth the drive....alas...not! 7 in our party and had a variety of different items. No one liked their dinner. Too greasy. Even the appetizers (fried pickles) taste like fish...yuck! Family says it has def gone down hill. Dont bother!
