We were going to eat at Lena's in Silver Springs, but found they close Wednesday's at 2 PM. So we decided to take our first try of Essex. Not worth the effort. The clam chowder was watery and not very hot with few clams. The fried clams were not up to par with big bullies. Service was pleasant, but not... More

Went with family that had been going here for years and said it was worth the drive....alas...not! 7 in our party and had a variety of different items. No one liked their dinner. Too greasy. Even the appetizers (fried pickles) taste like fish...yuck! Family says it has def gone down hill. Dont bother!

We have been going to this place for the past three yrs. but the last 2 times we have been it has been horrible. Quality of food and quantity has gone from excellent to poor and their prices have gone up. My husband got the lobster roll for $17.99 and there were only about 4 chunks of lobster. Not what... More

We took a chance on this place when we were on a motorcycle ride from Daytona. The place really doesn't look like much from the outside, but when we walked in, we thought it must be pretty good since the inside was packed.... at 2 in the afternoon! I ordered clam chowder, gator snacks, onion rings and a cheeseburger. All... More

I would recommend this restaurant to anyone if they want to try really good fish and chips! It was haddock and it was really really good! There is one in the Western Massachusetts too!

Coming from New England I have not found good seafood until I found Essex seafood. Great fried seafood and you get large portions. Cash only but the prices are inexpensive for real seafood . Staff is great and friendly

My New England wife loves this place as her favorite restaurant in Astor. Beware, they only take cash, On our 1st visit I had to leave my wife hostage while I ran to a near by bank to get out cash, Good sea food if you like deep fried clams and such

This food is terrible, no seasoning no flavor nothing just bland. I ordered fried catfish, macaroni and cheese fried and fried onion notts. She asked me did I want my fish on or off the bone I said off thinking I would get fillets. NOPE I got a lot of fish strips that I could barely tell it was supposed... More

Looking at 49 miles on Hwy. 40 to get to 75, we took a chance on this place. Boy, are we glad we did! If you are looking for atmosphere or only have credit, debit, or checks keep on driving. Right up front you are told cash only. The food was among the best I have found in Florida. It... More
