We are from the East coast and my wife grew up on Maryland crab ales in the Chesapeake area. So she order the Maryland crab cake. She said it was the worst she had ever had and I agreed. It looked like a hockey puck and tasted no better. I had the salmon and was flavorless and boring.

Unplanned trip to Captain Eddies on a Saturday afternoon. Seafood was very tasty and fresh. 1 order of fried clam strips, nice portion and fresh. 1 order of fish sandwich served with lettuce and tomato and sauce that was very good. Fries came with both, they were cooked to perfection, seasoned well and hot. Nice décor like a NJ shore... More

Have tried this place twice thinking the first time was just an off night. Second time we took guests and no one could finish their food. The hog fish (house specialty) was full of bones, that just ruins the experience. The others got scallops, shrimp and grouper cheeks. The scallops and shrimp looked and tasted like they were cooked yesterday... More

What this place lacks in ambience it equals in the food and the service. I was surprised to find this fish restaurant did not offer fish and chips so I opted for one of their signature fried seafood platters. How a fried platter can arrive at the table at room temperature is beyond me unless it had been fried earlier... More

This was our second visit to Captain Eddie's Seafood Bar in Nokomis. The first visit was serendipitous; this one was planned. I had a fresh broiled grouper sandwich and it was superb! I chose the cole slaw which was good, although it appeared to be chopped in a processor. My friend had the gulf shrimp basket which was very good... More

We really enjoyed the food and the atmosphere was perfect. We ate at the outside bar on a rainy day so we could watch it rain. It was very relaxing and the food was very good. I recommend this location as a place to get good seafood in the Venice area.

Another area classic for dinner or lunch. Huge portions and sides, you will not go home hungry. The seafood is a must as it is fresh-caught that day and made to order. Try one of the combo selections for a variety of fresh seafood choices. The service was tremendous and they even offer fresh seafood for sale to take home.... More

This place has been around for decades and haven't been there for decades. There is a large menu with a large variety of fish, much of it locally caught, which is a plus. Shrimp are especially good. Shrimp Taco had good shrimp but was not very warm and sort of conventional lacking in "finesse"coarse shredded cheddar on top). Calamari were... More
