Description: Michael’s Genuine Food & Drink is a showcase for the cuisine of Chef/Owner...
Michael’s Genuine Food & Drink is a showcase for the cuisine of Chef/Owner Michael Schwartz, with prices designed to encourage frequent dining. This unpretentious bistro seats 90 indoors and out, with another 14 seats at a handsome bar. Doubling as a casual neighborhood dining spot and a culinary destination, the bright, airy space in Miami’s evolving Design District showcases Schwartz’s trademark new American cuisine at prices designed to encourage frequent dining. Open daily for lunch and dinner, the menu is chock full of choices encouraging everything from a light bite to a multi-course feast. A quick glance at the menu and Michael's intentions for this restaurant are revealed. Notable is the frequency of the word homemade in the descriptions of dishes -- be it pasta, French fries or rabbit terrine. At the same time, Michael's takes advantage of the Chef’s decades-long relationships with winemakers to offer diners the opportunity to try a variety of wines at great value.

Good pork belly sandwich.

We came on a weekday for lunch. The place was very busy but we were seated quickly. There seemed to be wait staff rushing around but not organized. We waited for menus, drinks, and to order. I actually had to flag the waiter down so we could order. The food was tasty and fresh. The pork... read more

We've been going to Michael's Genuine since they opened around 2007. We like to go every few months as the menu has new additions every now and then, and every time we go, it's ALWAYS a great experience. I've taken many clients there for lunch, and also enjoy going for brunch and dinner. Great local farm fresh to table spot!... More

Went here for a brunch menu and instead served hors d' oeouvre portions. After ordering 5 items and still hungry, it took forever for 5 more bite size portions were delivered. Though the inventive drinks at the bar earned a second star don't bother to waist your money here when you can go to The Edge at The Four Seasons... More

Located in the Miami Design District, Michael's Genuine is exceptional, and I don't describe many restaurants that way. The service was perfect and the food was too. The menu has distinct items and we wished we could try them all. It was evening so we sat outside in the patio and even though it was a hot June night, the... More

Being one of my favorite years ago... noticed food not the same and portions getting smaller and more expensive and the flavor was no longer there??? I guess all the designer high price around the area has influenced this long time favorite. Wife and I had dinner no drinks (nothing special) $160 and we left with a unpleasant "I just... More

In the middle of design district in Miami is MGFD. The outside seating is pleasant and helps enhance the experience. The heirloom tomato salad is amazing, and leave room for dessert, if available try the coconut cake. The pastry chef is one of the best in the country and Anthony Bourdain has featured the restaurant in one of his shows.... More

While in town for business, I had the opportunity to have dinner/drinks at Michael's Genuine Food & Drink! Wow... What a wine list! The waitress was knowledgable and offered a sample prior to ordering a bottle of wine... We ended up having 2 bottles! When in Miami again, I will definitely be going back to Michael's. A GREAT place and... More

Interesting food but you are not going t get a real meal on sunday brunch but an assortment of interesting items. Don't get me wrong, you can leave feeling full it's just not your typical lunch. I will go back during the week to see if the menu is much different. I suggest going with friends and sharing multiple dishes.... More

Sat outside on the patio- it was hot outside yet still comfortable with the fans. The service is excellent. The food is good but not memorable. The egg dish they are famous for was tasty and appealing looking but probably better for breakfast. The grilled octopus was very good, but I wasn't crazy about the presentation. It looked nice but... michael's genuine, in the heart of miami's über-cool design district, opened up before the area became what it is today, super bougie (but i still love it and highly recommend a visit). micheal's genuine was also ahead of the curve, at least in the state of florida, when it came to featuring fresh, local, seasonal and sustainable food. therefore, you...
