Description: Michael’s Genuine Food & Drink is a showcase for the cuisine of Chef/Owner...
Michael’s Genuine Food & Drink is a showcase for the cuisine of Chef/Owner Michael Schwartz, with prices designed to encourage frequent dining. This unpretentious bistro seats 90 indoors and out, with another 14 seats at a handsome bar. Doubling as a casual neighborhood dining spot and a culinary destination, the bright, airy space in Miami’s evolving Design District showcases Schwartz’s trademark new American cuisine at prices designed to encourage frequent dining. Open daily for lunch and dinner, the menu is chock full of choices encouraging everything from a light bite to a multi-course feast. A quick glance at the menu and Michael's intentions for this restaurant are revealed. Notable is the frequency of the word homemade in the descriptions of dishes -- be it pasta, French fries or rabbit terrine. At the same time, Michael's takes advantage of the Chef’s decades-long relationships with winemakers to offer diners the opportunity to try a variety of wines at great value.

It was our first visit for four of us (2 coupes). We ordered the double yolk farm eggs, butter lettuce, pork shoulder, black grouper, and their very own genuine brew (in a bottle...no other option) to wash it down. While we can appreciate their concept and efforts to produce a high quality product, to us it somehow fell short. Of... More

We had the grilled octopus, fish ceviche, pork belly, and clams. Everything was fresh and balanced. The peach and citrus in the ceviche were perfect with the grouper. Service was excellent. This was one of the best meals I've eaten in recent memory.

I hadn't been to Michaels Genuine in a few years; The food remains of consistent great quality. This is a restaurant that strives for a farm to table concept. We ordered the burrata salad and since tomatoes were not in season the burrata was served with peaches. Very delicious combination. I highly recommend the duck confit from the lunch menu.... More

Located in the exclusive newly renovated design district shopping area. This restaurant serves high quality food with friendly service. You should definitely try the Duck Confit and Chocolate pie.

Rating would be 2.5 if possible to give 1/2 points. The highlight was easily the seasonal specialty peach cocktail. I had 3. Delicious. We were a party of 7 so we were relegated to the farthest back corner wedged behind the bar by the server door. Our server, while a nice enough guy & knowledgable about the menu, seemed to... More

Though service was pretty good, the quality of the food is not the same it used to be. Examples? Less octopus on the course, very bad quality rib eye steak and poorly grilled. This restaurant is not what it used to be just a year ago.

I like MGFD - always have. Atmosphere is great, the staff very professional and I the menu is what I want to eat but prepared better than most. Recent visit was a bit disappointing. Frisée salad - a personal favorite was sandy. I mentioned it to the server and he said it was the pepper but he took it away... More

Only one thing did not like, the way the menu was re-structured. It makes it hard to go through it and "feel/taste" the wonderful options in it. Other than that we had a wonderful evening dinner.(Try the Mango Sundae!) The place, the ingredients, the cuisine, the service and the "ambiance" they all blend in an impressive way.

The food was excellent, and the drinks were even better. The pom soda was one of the best drinks I've ever tried. We were able to get a table for lunch on a Sunday, but we found the seating to be a bit crowded. Our table for two was perhaps 6 inches from the next table over. We could have... More
