Come for the history and atmosphere, not the food

We took the boat ride over to the island and were about 30 minutes early for dinner, so we went to the bar for some adult beverages. The bartender has been there since the late 50's and told us the history of Caps Place. Went in for dinner and it was superb. We had the claims casino, scallops wrapped in... More

This place is very neat. Old, with looks of history. Drinks and apps in the bar are a must. Feels like you've stepped back in time. Rustic and just unique. Ya feel like a pirate. The scallops and fish dip apps were excellent. We did have to wait a bit, but it was okay with us, about 45 minutes. For... More

There's not really much more to say. Went there on a Sunday night the service was extremely slow the food had been in the warmer for quite some time the entrees were dried and overdone. How can you be out of your signature salad hearts of palm? Hands down the worst restaurant I have been to in South Florida.

We had been to Caps Place several times oner the past two years with satisfactory results. Tonight we were celebrating my 69th birthday and were looking forward to a memorable experience. The food was good except that they were in short supply of a number of menu items. Service was average, not up to the our standards. We had indicated... More

Most of our gang took the shuttle boat over but I will tell you that parking there is very limited. (Do not tell anyone, but you can get there by cab down 36th St. in Lighthouse Point) (There is no parking at the restaurant at all. Boat or drop off that is your choices. First you must know Cap's is... More

WE found Caps Place after searching for a location to host a rehearsal dinner for 40 people, many who were traveling from the Midwest. The people planning with us made it all seamless and easy. Caps Place was ideal you take a boat out to the restaurant and the captain tells you stories about the history of Caps place while... More

Cap's is Florida's oldest restaurant. It sits on an island off Lighthouse Point and can only be reached by Cap's motor launch. It specializes in seafood. I had the mixed seafood platter and it was very good. My husband had the filet of red snapper with all the trimmings andit was very tasty. The wine selection was ok but very... More

We have heard about this restaurant for years, but for some reason had never eaten here. The short ferry ride to the restaurant is a nice start to the evening. My adult son was impressed with the rustic bar and photos lining the walls. Our fish was cooked perfectly and was very fresh. I do agree with several other reviewers... More

Loved this place! Started off with the neat little boat ride across to the restaurant. Waitress was very nice and gave good tips to what was especially good, in addition to a cool history of the place (look it up, it's really interesting). We started with the escargot, which was good especially if you've never tried it before. Then we... More
