Worth a one time visit

First time to this old historic place located on Island in the middle of intercostal waterway. Short boat ride with a rather lame speech gets you to island. Food was good...mostly...did not care for Jim style as it is flash fried and more heavily breaded than I prefer. No draft beer...full... read more

Well let's just say it was a fun way to go out to dinner. Arrived at ferry parking and was first amazed by all the reef fish under the dock water was crystal clear then the boat captain was funny he was yelling at all the out of town idiots to sit in certain spots on boat so boat wouldn't... More

Make a reservation. Get there early The little parking lot at ferry fills up FAST.. Our 8 yr old loved the boat ride. Cool nostalgic bar and restaurant. They made us feel welcomed. Staff is knowledgible and friendly. Drinks are good. Fresh fish was outstanding. Fun thing to do while your visiting the area. Its a bit pricey though.. KIds... More

Although you can now get to this "hidden gem" via car, it's much more enjoyable waiting at the dock for the restaurant's very own water taxi. Rich in history. Al Capone had a gambling parlor on the island as well as being a key staging area for liquor during prohibition. Lots of character. Oh, and did I mention the food?... More

We took the kids here because we thought they would like the boat ride over. They did, but the wait was long because there were so many people waiting to get over. A good sign? Not Really. The food was average for the price, their wine selection was anemic, the restaurant itself is outdated, service mediocre and the outside property... More

By now you know the premise: take a boat ride to a small island where an old (and I mean OLD) rum-runner's shack (and I mean SHACK) has been converted to a restaurant. The boat ride was fun and charming. Then we arrived and I was dumb-struck. We found 2 shacks -- one the bar, and one the restaurant --... More

$38 fresh fish entries, $36 crab cakes, all reasonable EXCEPT while not bad neither was it exceptional or even particularly good. Food theme was while cooked ok very bland whether crab cakes or yellow tail. Kind of "MEH". Crab cakes had good crab but seemed to be mixed with bread filler (think stoffers stufifing) and mush for crust. Yellowtail smalll... More

Liked the novelty of taking the boat out to the restaurant and then being able to walk around the island. Did not like the incredibly over-priced entrees.

From the time you park and take the ferry over to the island, this is a memorable experience. The history and the ambiance of the place is spell binding. The menu is interesting and the service was wonderful. The food was mediocre. We had the crab cakes, and yellowtail with hearts of Palm salad. The key lime pie was missing... More
