Going ten years strong with a menu designed to make mouths water and a location that embodies Gainesville's Downtown area, Big Lou's NY Style Pizzeria comes from humble beginnings. As many local start-ups do, Lou's developed into the reputable pizza spot it is today through a patient process. Lou Wynn, or "Big Lou" himself, is originally from South Florida but was no stranger to Gainesville. Graduating from the University of Florida with a degree in Health Science, Lou eventually decided to pursue the food industry. He was so inspired to build up his own restaurant (with the help of his supportive wife, Mary) that he was willing to do whatever it took to make it work - and even went as far as selling his car to pay for the original costs. Biking to work for the first few months of business is a whole new level of dedication... Nearly one decade and thousands of pizzas later, Lou's is constantly growing (currently under renovation!) While staying true to its warm and welcoming hometown roots. With a close group of team members, fun atmosphere and fresh ingredients that make our variety of menu items so satisfying, we promise any Lou's experience to leave you happy, full, and excited to come back again.

Best pizza in Gainesville

Get the tomato basil pizza. It is amazing, they use fresh garlic, it is amazing. I also get the eggplant Parmesan sandwich. Great ingredients, locally owned. Lou takes a personal interest in making sure the food is great.

Have yet 2 have a truly bad experience. Servings are large & food is hot and tasty. Had a lousy server once, but that has 2 b expected. Especially loved the pizza with olive oil and fetta! Will return. Great place for lunch!

We ate here as we were spending one night at the downtown Hampton before heading on to Orlando the next day (Big Lou's is walking distance to the Hampton). Heed this warning: portions are HUGE, so you may want to share an entree. The salad they bring you that comes with your meal could be a meal itself. That's one... More

Food was very good and portions were very big . Can't wait to return. Only downside was parking in the area is not the easiest.

The wait times from the staff can take awhile if they start to pick up so plan accordingly, but the food is really good and reasonable for a college town. The small salad can easily feed two and you can order a slice and add your own toppings and its huge, or a small pizza can easily be split between... More

Big Lou's is about as Jersey/New York pizza as you can find here----excellent crust, good sauce and good amount of cheese. Sausage for the pizza is sliced thin- not crumbles like most places use around here. Garlic knots are fabulous as are the salads (a small is big enough for two adults). Good for families, too.

This time around we tried dining on the patio and, yes, I am still a fan! The wrought iron patio tables are spread with plenty of space around the patio which faces a quiet street. Our pizzas were great and were large enough that we had plenty to take home. Dining al fresco on a nice night was perfect! I... More

I can only comment on the pizza as that is what I ate. We took 2 pies to go, one cheese only and the other, pepperoni and mushroom only. We were here in Gainesville for Christmas as we live out of country. Four of us ate the pizza and all four said it was one of the best pizza experiences.... More

This is nice little place. It took a while for our server to come to the table to take our drink order and our table was waaayyy too small for 4 people. But when another table opened up, we asked to move and they were cool with it. The garlic rolls were good and the pizza was excellent.
