I ventured to Cap's Place with bated breath as the last time I had eaten there was in the early sixties. I had fond memories of the place but through a child's eyes. The nightmare started with calling Cap's and being informed that we absolutely needed a reservation. We were a bit shocked when we arrived at Cap's and almost... more

I was here a couple of times long ago, and all I remember is that I loved it. Then I read some poor reviews here, so I was a little anxious this time. No need. It's as good as I remember. Rustic shanty buildings, one the bar, the other the restaurant. The food -- superb! My two companions agreed --... more

Fresh Fish is the only way I like it...3/18/08 For my husband's birthday we decided to try Cap's even though I am not a seafood fan. The boat ride is a short endevour to the island. The boardwalk leads to the bar and restaurant. It is an old Florida building, offering a rustic romantic feeling. The hostess was attentive and... more

A good example of old Florida. Family operated restaurant with well prepared seafood and an interesting place to eat. The short boat ride to the island from the marina adds to the experience. The food prices seemed a little high. more

After a recent visit on July 28th 2007, I have found what I believe is the worst resturant I have ever been to. It certainly does have a lot of history behind it, but I believe the original owner would be turning in his grave if he knew what the place was like today. Horribly overpriced for what it is.... more

We found Cap’s Place to be very disappointing. For food served the prices were excessively high. Food was OK but I have had better at chain restaurants like Red Lobster. Our waiter was condescending and made rude remarks. It is the only restaurant that I have been to in a long time that does not offer free refills on soft... more

This is a novelty experience and fun for travelers and visiting guests. The boat ride is short and if you are lucky you will get a bit of local history on the ride over. The bar is very rustic and the old historical pictures on the wall are worth a perusal. Once you get past the gruff gatekeeper (the hostess)... more

Ahhhh! The ferry ride across the majestic "Lake Placid". If you can get by the exhaust fumes ........... and the not so cushy deck chairs, a passable experience. The bar ........... hmmmmmmmmmmm ............. not sure between quaint and old and decrepit ......... drinks were good .......... but overpriced. Table was ready right on time. Waitress friendly .......... she did like... more

Basic fish. Basic preparation. Overpriced for what you get. Don't be fooled by the prices - you do NOT need to dress up for this meal. Great locale = great history but could we get some great food please? The best thing about it is the boat ride over. Once that's over you might as well turn around and ride... more

Cap's Place was the freshest and best seafood I've had in South Florida. The hearts-of-palm salad was fresh! It was so much fun we took our friends back the very next week. It's an experience from the Florida I grew up in years ago. more
