Delightful Surprise

I ordered the Dinner meal of Huachinango a la Veracruzana ($ 17), a lime-marinated grouper in sauce. Since every prior piece of grouper (we have had plenty living in Florida 27 years) I have had was thick in comparison to most other fish, I was anticipating the same this time. Instead, I got a disappointing thin portion (likely only 4... More

A friend and I happened upon this place while attending the Wildflower Festival... and it was a treat! We both found the food to be delicious. We sat outdoors since it was a beautiful day (didn't see the inside of the restaurant so can't comment on it). I started with a cup of the plantain soup since it sounded interesting.... More

Hubby and his cousin and I went to lunch today. We arrived at 1 or so and Deland was having a garden fair/festival. They were busy but we were seated immediately inside. I ordered the Nopalitos and they were good. I ate the Plantain Enmoladas and they were great except that the "bed of rice" under the Enmoladas was almost... More

I met a friend here on a Friday and we sat outside - I had eaten here once before and found the food delicious - We both ordered the Fishadas dish - we also enjoyed a glass of wine. When the waitress brought the food ,it looked wonderful but on my first bite, there was a long black hair in... More

Dear customer, I am the owner of De La Vega and first of all let me apologize for having such a bad experience at the restaurant the other day. Unfortunately, I was not there to talk to you but I can assure you that Ashley (your server) was very concerned and she did talk to me about the incident that... More

Sidewalk seating is a pleasure but not with yapping dogs at adjacent tables. Food is very average and a surprise glass of wine is unusually priced. Unless you know this place, go to Santorini's.....wish I had.

While browsing through the charming antique shops of Deland and looking for a light lunch we found--tapas!! A very interesting menu with many choices. If you've never tried cactus, what a treat! The nopalitos layered charred cactus, cheese, pineapple and peppers. Their specialty, aspirinas, corn patties with beans tomatoes, cheese and chicken. The very best item, was the tortilla soup. A... I visited on a Sat. afternoon and chose to sit outside. Curious about the hibiscus tacos, I asked my waitress how they tasted. She offered me a taste sample and I was sold. So delicious! I also tried the aspirinas which when paired with the salsa verde were excellent as well. I went with the recommended wine (sorry don't remember... More

We took a day trip today to Deland because of the reputation of the downtown as a tourist destination. It just so happened that we arrived at lunch time, and De La Vega's menu caught our eye. My wife and I love Tapas, and we have eaten at a number of them in other parts of the country and Canada.... More

I love to eat at De La Vega. The food is original and fresh. It is not your typical Mexican food. I usually try at least one new dish per visit. Sometimes the service is slow.
