Small restaurant with a lively older bar crowd. Favorite of the locals. Owner is very friendly and makes sure things are done right. Had an excellent blackened grouper sandwich. The soup is also excellent. We enjoyed the place

I've eaten at Backwater's three times before but this time my wife and grown son and I went for drinks while waiting our reservation at Columbia just a stone's throw away. For non-residents: this is a quintessential Florida seafood place, with fresh catches and a lot of dinner options. I've reviewed the food before, so this time I'm going to... More

Ate here during our stay in Clearwater and loved it! Would definitely return. Great food, good service, and reasonable prices. Bang for the buck is hard to beat! Butter blackened New York strip was great. So was the island way (mahi mahi and shrimp).

Let me start that the ambiance on the water is terrific. Happy hour starts from 2-7. You can get raw oysters for 7.00 a dozen ans peel an eat shrimp which were huge for the same amount, wines 3.50. I had their chicken crusted chicken with coleslaw unbelievable. I highly recommend this place!

The crab cakes are delicious. Had scallops in lemon butter: also excellent. Had St. Francis pinot noir served with care and cool: very good. Service excellent, caring and easy going. I shall return

This is a smaller but hopping place for both travelers as well as the snow birds of the area. With good weather it is nice to sit on the patio

First time visit. Ate at the bar (best choice as the two bartenders were great and the regulars were friendly). Bacon wrapped scallops appetizer was yummy. My companion had the fried shrimp and loved it. I had the regular burger and it was excellent and the fries and slaw were tasty. Enjoyable time with welcoming atmosphere. We'll be back!

we had the blackened grouper which was a bit too salty but cooked right, the mashed potatoes were excellent, fries not so good. Service was excellent, friendly staff, atmosphere is from the 80's needs updating. Definitely ok for dinner and not terribly expensive.

We have never had a bad meal at Backwater's. It's what I look for in a seafood restaurant, with friendly staff, who are very knowledgeable about what's on the menu, and the specials of the day. Happy hour from 5-7 pm, bring in both visitors, and locals. With 1/2 dozen oysters for 3.95 during HH, you cannot go wrong. Portions... More

We made a trip to Clearwater from our condo in Indian Rocks Beach to watch the sunset. On our way over the bridge, we stopped on Sand Key at Backwaters. Don't miss it...it's tucked in the corner of a strip mall on the east side of the street. It's a great find of a restaurant. The fish and chips wasn't... More
