Off the beaten track

This restaurant is sort of tucked away, and I didn't know it was there until a couple of years ago. I've eaten there several times; it can be a bit noisy, but the food is very good, and the service is good, too. For Tex-Mex food in this area, I don't think you can beat it.

Never again will I set foot in or spend money at Border Cafe in Newark. They refused to seat a party of 14 (wedding rehearsal I was part of) because we were not all in the buillding. I was letting my children walk into the restaurant. They gave our table away saying we took too long!!! They said they could... More

The food is terrific and typically the service is too. Last time we were there, I had a glass of water with dinner and there was a dead fly smooshed INSIDE the glass under the water later. Disgusting,, have not been back.

This resturant is usually always packed, so expect to wait at least a half hour to be seated. The menu has a very nice selection. Prices are reasonable. The food is excellent and there is plenty of it. Everything is clean and neat. Love the decor both inside and outside of this resturant. Servers have always been very pleasant and... More

My husband and I were craving Mexican and had heard of border cafe before but never stopped in until recently. When you first arrive and walk through the front doors you are instantly hit with amazing smells of authentic creole and Mexican cooking. Your stomach starts to growl as soon as you walk in. The atmosphere is fun and vibrant.... More

I have only been to the Border Cafe once and have only had the Blackened Swordfish Tacos and they were AMAZING! The swordfish was nicely spiced. The mango salsa and cole slaw toppings were fresh and delicious. The sides of jambalaya and fried stuffed avocado were great! The jambalaya was like Cajun fried rice; quite different than what I am... More

I have been to the Border Cafe, over the years, about a dozen times. A few more times recently, as my significant other seems to really like it. I have never had a bad time. The food is good and the service is great. Other restaurants that struggle would do well to eat here and see how things should be... More

We have searched for REALLY authentic Mexican food since leaving California 15 years ago ... We finally found it Wilmington! The enchiladas are phenomenal. The salads are excellent and actually fill you up! Margaritas are made in large portions .... A great place to eat and doesn't break the bank.

Let me start by saying most of the food here was really good. The gumbo had wonderful flavor and hubby's shredded beef enchiladas were good also. My issue was I asked the waitress for a dish with chorizo because I love chorizo. She recommended a chicken breast stuffed with spinach and chorizo. The dish came and there was no chorizo... More

Met a friend here for a late lunch and, even at 2:00pm, it was packed. The food is average, but seems to be a great hit with the locals. The prices are always very reasonable, the portions are generous, but having eaten quality Mexican food in Arizona and much better Texican in Texas, I am not overly fond of the... More
