Great History and Good Food

We enjoy going there. They have very good Nachos. There is History in this Tavern. Edgar Allen Poe stopped here. Plus..... many famous people in the colonial days stopped here, as it was a crossroads between Philadelphia, PA and Baltimore, MD.

The Deer Park was a great place to start our three day celebration of our 50th Reunion. We reserved the upstairs room for our "Meet and Greet" where 75 classmates reunited for a fun evening of friends, food and drink. Many had not been here since high school/college days and it was fun to reunite at our old Newark landmark.... More

I had a great time until the end of the night when the bouncer shoved my girlfriend during closing hours. I wish this place the worst for treating anyone like that.

Hello Bradley, We are sorry to hear that your experience with us was not of the positive nature our patrons typically receive. However, we did handle the situation with the utmost poise and professionalism as we would never think of doing any different. It is never our desire for a customer to leave upset with their experience, but we do... More

I was brought here on a date and was hoping for the tavern to be "historically" decorated at least after hearing of the history of the tavern. You profess about the fact that Edgar Allen Poe used to frequent the tavern back in the day, but only have a stuffed dollar tree raven in a cheap cage to show tribute.... More

Hello Juli, We were shocked to hear how negative your experience was. While we are aware of our history and do pay tribute to it in our own, unique way, we do not wish for this to overpower the experience our customers may have in our establishment. We apologize for your disappointment regarding the food we served you. All dishes... More

This is an old building. It has a parking lot which is rare in Newark. Rather dark inside. good service. The food was good. We were three. We had the crab cakes, sliced steak, salmon, Each dish came with veggies . The crab cakes lived up to thier billing of being mostly crab meat. We were happy with this place... More

Neighborhood corner tavern serving decent brunch food. Good Eggs Benedict with home fries and slice of melon. Frittata with mozzarella cheese, broccoli, mushrooms, onions, tomatoes and potatoes was very filling. Good coffee and nice service. The bloody mary bar needs to be cleaned up a bit.

The Deer Park was once an inn and it is presented as the place Poe ate, with a stuffed crow as decoration etc. It is mostly a student drinking hangout, but lots of faculty eat lunch there, especially from the education building next door. The food is Americana. It is OK+ but definitely not special. It is often crowded and... More

Located in an old historical building. Bar/pub type atmosphere, suitable for families/children. Good food and some cheap beer prices. Service was great. Nice place if visiting UD, especially for the older crowd.

This place is awesome. No other place like it on Newark. Great reasonably priced food. Plenty of drink choices. Definitely a stop if you're in Newark.

We love eating here, especially on a nice day when we can eat on the balcony on the secoind floor. We can then eat great food, and watch the Univ Delaware students, and Newark traffic. We can also see the trains that come within a few feet of the resturant occasionally. The service is also wonderful.
