Great college town tavern

Stopped in for lunch during a weekday. I can only imagine what this place looks like on a Friday and Saturday night, a great college hub. Had the tavern sandwich which was the same yet different. Ham with apples not what I would have put together but it worked. Nice atmosphere friendly staff would... read more

So I was out with my father on Saturday in Newark and stumbled upon this restaurant from Open Table. The prices did not seem bad and it was extremely close to the Bob Carpenter Center. While the food was amazing, the service was horrible. We were seated promptly and ordered our food. My dad ordered the French Onion Steak Sandwich... More

Yes, I too have fallen victim to Edgar Allan Poe's curse. If I can manage to pass all the other great bars and restaurants in Newark, and get to the end of Main St., the DP's siren song is too strong to resist. Not necessarily a bad thing, though. The beer selection has vastly improved in the last year, and... More

Unfortunately, my wine was delivered in a glass that had already been used. Not the best way to start a meal but our server was kind and very apologetic, quickly replacing it with a clean glass. All the food delivered to our party of eight looked delicious and tasted it too. We had a great time and will return. We... More

I'm bummed to hear there is no DJ on Friday night's. Just bands? No, I want to do the wobble. It used to be really fun.

I had the Huevos Santa Cruz served in a Tortilla Bowl with eggs, ham, cheese, salsa and refried beans...Very good. Bloodys are $4 on Sundays 10-2, and you have the choice of them fixing it or my recommendation of the Make-Your-Own massive Bloody Mary bar. Casual and loud but good service too.

Returned to Newark for the first time in nearly 20 years and despite all the changes on campus it was great to see the deer park is still going strong. No, the nachos are not what they were from back in the day, but the patrons and staff are the same genuine friendly people they've always been and the sandwiches... More

Came here on a tuesday night so was not too busy. Came mainly for drinks and the atmosphere, did not eat any food. Bar has good service and an extensive range of different draft beers. They also had promotions on some of them and also the cocktails making it a cheap night out. Would highly recommend.

I've been to this neat pub twice now and have really enjoyed my meals both times. I love the building itself and the fact that a train nearly runs through the restaurant while you're eating- almost through the bathrooms hahaha! It's cool. The quesadilla was probably my favorite meal there. The staff has always been friendly. I don't necessarily care... More

Great place to have drinks and dinner. Being a great college town, it is sometimes hard to find a great place for older folks to enjoy a dinner. We chose to eat outside on the porch. What a great choice. It was fairly quite and enjoyable. This place is such a eclectic place to visit. There were students, bikers and... More
