Good shakes & food and the First Day of Summer

I've been going to this location for decades now! I did notice some changes to the food items when it became a Jake's Wayback Burgers instead of just a Jake's a while back. The buns are different and so are the fries, but the overall burger is still good. I like the new fries, but actually... read more

Not a bad burger and much better than fast food. I do miss the old Jakes and it appears to me that the Wayback franchise has changed the quality of the food. The rolls and fries seem different to me. All in all still a pretty good option for a fast burger fix. The shakes are also still very good.

After all the hype decided to try Jakes. Found the burger to be nothing special. Facility could use a good cleaning. And the charge for a small shake seemed exceptionally expensive for a relatively small cup.

When I think about a quick place to get a burger, I usually think about one of the major chain fast-food places. At the other end of the spectrum I think about diners and speciality places that can be really pricey when it comes to a simple hamburger. Right smack in the middle of that is Jake's. They specialize in... More

I just left a Wayback burger place at 4104 Surles Court Durham NC....The guy at the counter that took my order ask me to repeat it about 4 times, then asked me if I wanted a soda. I said, no thank you...After saying no he ask me 2 more time if I wanted a soda. The burger and fries were... More

Burgers are made fresh, and not frozen. They have interesting flavors for their shakes, especially their shake of the month.

This may not have been one of the best restaurant meals I've ever had in a restaurant (as the question above asks) but it is certainly the best hamburger I've ever had. 100% hamburger meat done to perfection on the most delicious bun. My presumption is that the burger would come on a regular (and boring) hamburger bun. But it... More

I guess I'm the dope. I thought just maybe I could accompany my wife to try this place for the first time. But I'm on WeightWatchers ... but they had a veggie burger on the menu. I thought I could stay on my diet and eat their veggie burger, but to my complete astonishment, the veggie burger was deep fried.... More

When I step into this VERY unassuming burger joint, I wonder whether I am seeing fast-food history being made. This is, afterall, where the Jack's burger "empire" began -- a concept they are now trying to franchise across the country under the "Wayback" concept. It remains to be seen how successful that effort will be; for the moment, they're kind... More
